  • Announcing the Moggy New Year Bonanza 2011! (11/16/2010)

    Mog Bonanza, the Stuff of Adventurer Dreams

    Ever wonder what it would be like to bathe in a pool of gil or bask in the attention of your peers as you strut through town square with a kraken club-caliber weapon swaying at your hip? If your answer is yes, then the Mog Bonanza is not an event you can afford to miss!

    As a show of gratitude to all of you who have helped to make Vana'diel such a vibrant realm of adventure for these past eight years, we'll be giving away some of the most extravagant prizes ever to grace a Mog Bonanza! Don't miss this chance to turn your Vana'dielian dreams into reality and become the envy of all fellow adventurers. Ridiculous amounts of gil or super-rare items of legend—or both—await you!

    How to Play

    The Mog Bonanza is a number-guessing game in which you pick a five-digit number of your choice, kupo. Playing is simple! Purchase a Mog Bonanza marble (*1) from a Bonanza Moogle at designated areas (*2), then have the vendor inscribe your desired five-digit number on it, kupo. If you can't decide on a number, we moogles will be more than happy to pick one for you. The winning numbers will be announced at a later date, so sit tight and leave the rest to Lady Luck, kupo!

    The conditions for winning are as follows:

    Rank 1 prize: all five digits matching.
    Rank 2 prize: the last four digits matching.
    Rank 3 prize: the last three digits matching.
    Rank 4 prize: the last two digits matching.
    Rank 5 prize: the last digit matching.

    * The winning number for each prize rank will be drawn separately. In the event that winning numbers overlap for multiple prize ranks, the higher-ranked prize will be given precedence. For example, should the winning numbers for ranks 4 and 5 be “11” and “1” respectively, the holder of a bonanza marble etched with the number “11111” will be awarded with a rank 4 prize.

    *1
    Up to 10 Mog Bonanza marbles can be purchased per character. You can have the same number inscribed on multiple marbles. This will mean bigger earnings should you have a winning number.

    *2
    Purchase your Mog Bonanza marbles, check winning numbers, and collect prizes from Bonanza Moogles at Port San d'Oria (I-9), Port Bastok (L-8), Port Windurst (F-6), or the Chocobo Circuit (H-8).

    FINAL FANTASY XI Moggy New Year Bonanza 2011

    Price: 2000 gil per marble.
    Marble sales period: Wednesday, December 22, 2010 to Tuesday, January 18, 2011
    Winning numbers announced: Thursday, February 3, 2011
    Prize collection period: Thursday, February 3, 2011 to Monday, February 21, 2011
    (*all times 12:00 a.m. PDT)
    Eligibility: Only characters for whom 45 days or more have passed since creation can purchase bonanza marbles.
    * The winning number will be randomly determined in a strictly supervised process.
    * Employees of Square Enix, Square Enix Inc. and Square Enix Ltd. and their relatives are forbidden from participating in the Mog Bonanza.

    How to Check the Winning Numbers

    The winning numbers can be confirmed via the following two methods during the designated prize collection period:

    1) Viewing the system message displayed upon logging into the game.
    2) Speaking with a Bonanza Moogle at one of the following locations: Port San d'Oria (I-9) / Port Bastok (L-8) / Port Windurst (F-6) / Chocobo Circuit (H-8).

    *1 [ Regarding Gil Prizes ]

    The amount of gil awarded for each rank will be determined by first taking a percentage value (listed below) of the proceeds of marble sales in all worlds, then further dividing the resultant figure by the total number of winners representing each rank.

    Rank 1 → 50%
    Rank 2 → 23%
    Rank 3 → 27%

    For example, in the case that marble sale proceeds total 10 billion gil, with 50 rank 1, 500 rank 2, and 5000 rank 3 prize winners, the amount of gil awarded to the winners of each rank would be as follows:

    Rank 1 Prize: (10 billion x 50%) ÷50 = 100 million
    Rank 2 Prize: (10 billion x 23%) ÷500 = 4.6 million
    Rank 3 Prize: (10 billion x 27%) ÷5000 = 540,000

        Oh shit... 100 M, or Free Empyrean?

        That's a tough call since while I maintain Empyreans are a lot easier to get than Relics (they're doable from start to finish within a month if you have a few friends with the right jobs & atma) it's still a lot of hassle saved.

        I don't even give a shit about the K Club anymore, I wanted it for so many years and now it's just like, "meh" lol. The category 2 is another brainscratcher since both Black Belt & Are quite tempting (not to mention I could also get my hands on my damned DRG Helm or THF gloves...)

          At least I finally got a statue last year. I'll hope for the chance to choose from something better... That's all.

          ~~~~~~~~~ (But...)
          If I had the chance (bereft of a way to look most of those items up atm) my list would most likely be:
          1) Empyrean Weapon - GK or dagger (Thf or Dnc) ... it would be a coin toss... possibly several
          2) Noc. Mail ... at least I'm pretty sure. Xarcarbard Thief Hands is tempting only cuz I'd like never to do Dynamis ever again.... another coin toss.
          3) Noc. Helm or Gnad. Helm ... yet, another coin toss. I'd have to look most of those up cuz I don't remember them offhand.
          4) Idk... again... I'd have to look up to see which is most useful for my jobs. And... a statue in Rank 4... really? Better be be the size of a small fountain. Odin better be pissing too.
          5) More than likely a Ark Angel... proly the Taru one.
                Yeay, another 150 chances for me to not win.
                At least I'm not so stretched on cash this time around, so I can afford it without jeopardizing my savings too much.
                Rank 1: Gil
                Rank 2: Whatever fetches the most gil
                Rank 3: See Rank 2
                Rank 4: Torn between Cradle Horn and Kupon L (Faith Torque). If on a mule like last time, see rank 3.
                Rank 5: Miratete's on main, random Ark Angel on my mules.
                Nothing really strikes my fancy anymore, especially since I have my Pantin Cape now (and every other relic). The Cradle Horn would be awesome, but it's ex tag means I have to have it on my main.
                So, the only thing I have left to choose really is gil.
                  This is a tough call ... spend all that gil on my RDM for something that may be of lesser value or ignore this and forget about FFXI entirely. Sigh... this is no different than Lotto tickets.
                    Re: Announcing the Moggy New Year Bonanza 2011! (11/16/2010)
                    It's funny, but also sad, how many of the prizes are level 75 or lower items with no path to relevance at 90+ -- i.e. if you get them now they'll be -1 inventory inside six months. Some of them potentially even faster, with AF3 bodies coming out in a few weeks, actually *before* the bonanza. (Although it's anyone's guess how long it will take to upgrade them, I've seen people with AF3+1 and even +2 already, suggesting "not that long, at least with the right connections".)
                    Last year I wanted Hauteclaire. This year I already have a better weapon from TotM (sure, the level requirement is 10 levels higher, but what difference does that make? It's not like there's a ton of 75 capped content, or even any whatsoever) so I'm looking at Homam Corazza and thinking "is there any chance I would wear that over Perle, at least until I upgrade some AF3 bodies"? Probably, in at least some situations, but you get the point. Most level 75 or lower gear is either trash or headed that way *very* fast.
                    Now that I'm done raining on the parade (this assumes winning on my main, since alts can only effectively get non-ex stuff or money):
                    1. Because it's percentage based, D-ring will probably be broken at any level. For that same reason, KB will be overcamped until the servers die, even (especially) after people can solo him. So might as well bypass the drama and bots. Almace and Rhongomiant are tempting, though (since those are part of trials paths that will probably continue to 99).
                    2. I'm not familiar enough with most of that stuff to know if any of it might be wearable in six months (except the valk fork, another past wishlist item that I think is now beaten by my *incomplete* Langdebeve, not to mention the additional stage I'm working on and the one they'll almost certainly add in the next patch). Black Belt would be good if I had any interest in MNK, but I don't really.
                    3. See above, second paragraph. Probably Homam.
                    4. At this point it's pretty much supposed to be junk, but I might get some use out of Peacock Amulet.
                    5. There's nothing useful at this level, but ark angel statues might at least look cool.
                    Defeated: Maat, Divine Might, Fenrir, Kirin, Cactrot Rapido, Xolotl, Diabolos Prime, Kurrea, 9/10 Dynamis Bosses (missing Tav), Promathia, Proto-Ultima, Proto-Omega, 4 Jailers, Apocalypse Nigh, 6/6 Nyzul Bosses
                    RDM90, PLD90, DRG90, COR90, SCH90, BLU54
                    All Nations Rank 10, ZMs & PMs Complete, AUMs Complete, Captain, Nyzul Floor 100 (5 Weapons, 4 WS), Medal of Altana, WotG Mission 15, 1/3 Addons Complete, 9/9 Abyssea Main Quests, 6/6 Caturae
                      As far as PLD goes, if you're not using the full Perle set, Homam body beats Perle body for TP and DD-ish standing set. That little extra accuracy is useful.
                      That said, the proper competitor to Homam Corazza is actually Haubergeon +1--and Haubergeon +1 wins in most cases. I only edit macro to Homam body for standing set against monsters with really hard hitting melee attacks--slightly better chance to evade with Flash on the monster while casting Ichi is better than none.
                      At this point, the best reason to work toward a Homam body is for the odd chance that SE would let us store the Homam set. Otherwise, I've nothing aginst a Perle body PLD (unless the person has Haubergeon/+1 or Homam already).
                      Bamboo shadows sweep the stars,
                      yet not a mote of dust is stirred;
                      Moonlight pierces the depths of the pond,
                      leaving no trace in the water.
                        Really not understanding why Salvage gear is still on the list... At least Relic makes sense, because there are a lot of relic items for various jobs that have very unique, irreplaceable effects such as DRG's Relic Helm or SAM's Gloves.
                        How about Free +2 Empyrean Armor instead?
                          I was hoping a bit for the same thing.. or at least X items used to complete the quests. I think giving the +2 items would be too much though, especially since many people have the +1 and many have some of the items for the +2 (myself included, having 3/6 for both my brd and pup legs). It would be a crying shame for everyone involved to have to drop what you have already done, at least to those who lost out on getting those items.
                          I suppose it could be justified as "I got it for 3 stones instead of 6", as it's not like they could go anywhere BUT out of the system (AH or the like).
                          Most of the things aren't even worth it anymore, except for the gil if it's high enough. I'm a little concerned about how much it's going to be this time, seeing as many people left for XIV and haven't looked back -- may see a bigger drop in sales than we have in the past.
                            Compared to a full salvage body? You've got to be kidding. Finishing a salvage piece is much harder, and expensive.
                              And not going to happen because Abyssea is the new content.
                              They're not going to hasten people leaving by giving away the brand new shinies.
