    Re: The Campaign Continues! (08/15/2008)

On most servers Sandy is the most populated city, so people will defend it the most. On Cerby however, Windy is the most populated, so it's currently the only city holding a zone. Sadly no one likes humes and galkas =(

      Re: The Campaign Continues! (08/15/2008)

Usually in campaign now I'm the random WHM/SCH running around tossing out hastes, raises and cures to random people. Jugner [S] on Kujata (My main character's name is Sardia so if you see me there and want a campaign party let me know) is like my second home really because it's nice to help people do their job and gain little bits of free exp in the process. The only thing I don't do is spam protects and shells on people because 1) Those scrolls are needlessly expensive and bottom priority since WHM has the AoE versions 2) It will be overwritten within seconds by an NPC or SCH anyway.

I've also found out that WHM is actually a pretty good kiter (albeit scary as hell without ES+Gravity), especially if you macro on some +Evasion gear (WHM has so much it's hard to list it but good candidates are the Crow set, Bat Earrings and Empress Hairpin) and an Earth Staff beforehand. There have been times in campaign where I've had to kite mob for someone or I got aggro and my party is too busy or otherwise unable to voke it off. I once remember kiting an orc for a full ten minutes (we were badly undermanned so things were dying slowly) before anyone in the area could voke it off me.

Honestly I've found campaign a lot more fun by simply not caring about what exp I'm going to get from it and just play it for fun. Heck I've gotten a few people added to my friend's list purely from random White Maging in Jugner [S]. I've saved a fair few people with a well timed Divine Seal + Cure IV too.

        Re: The Campaign Continues! (08/15/2008)

Personally, I suspect that the people who play Campaign to take and hold zones just changed nations to Sandy. At least that's how it seemed to me. I used to see those people working to take out mobs and do stuff to keep the beastmen down, as well as recruiting NPCs in the Windurst areas, but not anymore. Now I see them in the Sandy areas. And it was shortly after those people seemed to switch sides that Windurst seemed to really took a beating.

It might not be that, it could just be coincidental, but that's what it seems like to me.

At anyrate, I see far too many people too worried about soloing a mob, rather than taking out one attacking wave before the second and third reach it. Then the NPCs appear in the middle of it and get wiped out by the 2-3 waves of Yagudo that are attacking the fort at the same time.

Soloing a mob allows you to cap xp and get a good amount of notes in the process, so I doubt I'll stop doing that any time soon. (Edit > Althought there are usually enough people fighting in groups so it doesn't affect when I'm all the way over there killing an orc or an imp. )

Although I've been able to cap xp as BRD without tanking a mob, it just seems kinda random at times.

Either way SE needs to increase the xp cap to 10k/hr! \(^-^)/ I'm really enjoying getting merits in campaign, it's just kinda slow.

            Re: The Campaign Continues! (08/15/2008)

I won't argue that soloing a mob gets faster results in the short term, but if we're talking turning in tags every 10-15 minutes say, it seems like I can still cap my exp whether I solo a mob or not. I've formed some Campaign parties with friends and LS members and we've compared our exp, and unless someone was a Whm say and doing nothing but healing, we seemed to all cap our exp relatively easily. If the Whm breaks out the clubs and starts DDing though, it's been my experiance that they can hit the exp cap pretty easily as well.

The only part where this fails though is the really short under 5 minutes fights, then it does seem to matter if you've been tanking/soloing a mob. Otherwise it's always seemed to me that it's detrimental if you're soloing a mob. Unless of course, you want the fight to last as long as possible, but that means that it is impossible to defend the forts, and that it's only a matter of time before the beastmen are attacking the towns. It's at that point I have to ask why those people are complaining about beastmen running amuck in the towns, since they allowed the beastmen to take down the forts while they solo'd their mobs.

And note, I'm not talking about anyone here, I've just noticed that alot of the players who solo mobs are also the ones complaining in /shouts about no warp person during battles in the towns.

It annoys me when someone takes a mob faaaar away from the battle. We think we killed all of the mobs and the music just keeps going. Then we have to all run around until we can actually find the person that took the mob so far away so they can do their secret solo. I can understand that you take it far enough away so that you don't get links and such. But, when we have to actually run so far that we almost can't see the fort anymore to find you soloing your mob, that's not cool.

If they go so far away and taking so much time to kill a single mob then they are doing it wrong.

The main difference soloing a mob is you are pretty much guaranteed to cap xp, while making a lot more notes in the process. Getting 3k+ xp and 2.5k+ notes from a single battle is too good to pass on it.

I agree ray that is usually my way of doing it, hell any job with a competant hand can solo these things. (some might require great competant hands)

I used to be able to solo mobs well enough on WHM ... these days, it's quite a bit rougher.
