I'm learning about recursion in class this summer, and I can see so many places where they go wrong. *Sigh*

Recursion is basically a simplification process that sacrifices memory and speed for simplified coding. Learn it and then take the next step...

Learn to convert recursive routines into non-recursive ones.

Every routine is like a slightly different, little puzzle. I like recursion conversion. ^^

I sent them the same e-mail I sent last time. It has 2 basic points:

Point 1: Modify the algorithm of the update process:

1. If there is an existing, recent file catalog, skip to step 4. This check involves touching the update site to see when the new server file catalog was last updated. This is functionally similar to the way your web browser caches web pages.
2. Check the files and create a catalog of files requiring update. If there are no files to update, end the routine.
3. Save the update catalog.
4. Download files linearly from the list, removing them from the catalog after they meet checksum.
5. When the catalog is exhausted, delete it and goto step 2.

Additional: Within the routine, if there is failure at any level, the routine will not fault. It will continue to establish a connection until either (A) the process is manually interrupted (such as by clicking "Cancel") or the routine ends on condition specified above (that all the files are up-to-date). This means that I can start an update LEAVE and not have to worry about the stupid thing not finishing.

Point 2: Implement Torrent protocols to update faster.

Torrenting has already been implemented for WoW, a major competitor and significantly increases overall bandwidth without increasing costs to the content distributor.


I've sent this email 4 times, but nothing ever happens. Perhaps if you'd like, you could send a copy yourself like people do with politicians. ^^

You would think after 6 years they might have figured a way to not draw hate from updates, even when they are good.

I think those are what Feba calls "Toor In'ts." Obviously a very foreign concept, considering S-E hasn't applied it yet.

I think I mentioned that file check thing back on the first ToAU update when I had the same problem. If they haven't fixed it by now...

I think they just need to hop on some more bandwidth or learn to use torrents like Blizzard... My timer keeps jumping around. It keeps telling me:

2 hours (Ok....)
4 hours (-.-)
12 hours (Q.Q)

and the percent done on file 38.dat stays at 72%....

Yeah that was happening to me, I got about 730 files Dled, then I just gave up. I'll try again in a few hours, but most likely just wait until morning.

Terrible shame that Ixion's cloak is a cloak... For as a cloak we RDM cannot wear "teh hat" while wearing it so RDM will still want the Dalmy.

Man, servers are getting slammed ATM. I tried to download the update, 11 files in everything locked up and refused to move. That's after 20-30 tries just to get it to log in long enough to check files. (Wish they saved that somewhere on your machine, that's a long file check/update).

Wow, an hour and 15 minutes after mantience finishes and i can't even connect to upgrade yet.

I really hope the Blu Relic is worth while, because It's one of the things that is keeping me in the game still.

Holy shit at some of the mined dats ..... ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

I looked at them, and some of the jobs listed were messed up. So, I'm not going through the trouble of looking at them again for a while.
