Amele, I don't mean to try throw sand in your face... or some cliché like that.

There are always circumstances that lead to odd gear priorities. The WAR in that parse, for instance, had just come out of hiatus. I get the feeling he'd sold/given away most stuff and is still rebuilding.

I have a friend who was in the right place at the right time. Got a Ridill when SAM was his only 75 (and about 2 months fresh too) just because no one else in LS could use it at the time. Now he's a Ridill WAR with nothing but Sam/nin merits.

It's not that impossible to assume a Warrior who only ever camps ground NMs. You've met people similar to this before, I'm sure. A level 50 SAM with no 75 jobs and not even through promies yet but intent on not leveling 'til he has a Soboro. The same concept would apply to a 75 war/nin (this type will pretty much never touch a great axe or consider another sub) who wants to start with the biggest chunk: the Ridill. Oh, one more example: People who just ding 75 and are intent on pouring all their money and effort into making Relic weapons. Most don't succeed, others do and have gimp WAR SJs (map was his name?).
"And if he left off dreaming about you, where do you suppose you'd be?"

It requires having some friends who are willing to take their spare time to help you, potentially repeating CoP missions they've already finished.
Players who have deep connections within the game to get that kind of support from others tend to take it for granted. Similarly, players who have a lot of gil tend to forget how hard it was back when they didn't have gil, and how much work and effort it took to get what they now have.
well, cop isn't *that* hard (you'd need to clear through 4-3) I may have a tainted viewpoint, I organized and led two of the four groups that I was involved with in getting from the start to the end of CoP. (I likewise co-lead the assault group that I finally hit SL with last weekend)

as for getting to 4-3, you can do it with 6 people except for 2-3, which might take up to 12, depending on job mix. the fomor itself is killable with 4 (that's how I've done mine, I'm 0/3 at the moment though.) getting codi takes either time or cash, whichever you have more of.

I do admit that's more work than just farming gil, but it's alot less tedious in most cases and there's other reasons besides just getting a swift belt to get sea (for someone who already has sea, the only barrier is getting the codex really.)

The problem is COP isn't so much that the missions are hard as that people are freaking stupid and it's hard to find even five people that haven't already done it or that can take the time to do it that are intelligent enough for it.

I mean ffs, I tried doing 2-3 in a full alliance, had like eight deaths before we got to the Taurus, and *I* had to pull everyone to it (I was a BLM, not a THF) because nobody else could, and the alliance fell apart before we even managed to make it up the ladder. I went back later with the key that dropped and did it with *just myself and a friend* easier than with *an entire alliance*. That's how stupid a lot of people in this game are.

Oh, and the friend was a lv3 SMN. REALLY.

But yeah, You give a newb like 10k and they think you're a god. Holy shyt, if someone had given me 10k when I was in the dunes..
s/teleport/ninjitsu/ and I feel for you. Though, I'm still going to come out on top in the end.

I tried to make it so I never had less then 20k when I first started, but I'll take that 10k now.
