1 It is DPS class, and that is better than tank.
2 Well deserved hype and popularity. pirates don't stand a chance against ninjas, mew.
3 DPS have bearable queue times, mew. Plus people can form parties (outside of duty finding randoms) to get instanced stuff done.
4 Ewww, Naruto is lame. Even Ayane from DOA is better (and less annoying) mew. People are more likely wanting to be Sasuke's mother.
If anything, people will be creating their own unique and original Uchiha, Uzumaki, or something unrelated and from a different ninja franchise.
most people would create an entirely original ninja.

That's not the only problem with end game crafting, but it's a big part of it. Contrast that to 1.23 where you could have obscenely powerful gear with the right materia affixed. This was offset (too much IMO) by the high risks involved with melding though, including losing the item you were trying to meld along with the materia for a failed attempt. for example you used to be able to slap a maximum of +350 HP on a belt, for +250 (around that anyway) attack on a weapon which was just nuts.
So what are you complaining for? It's an optional gear route for players who don't normally have time to raid or do Brayflox HM runs constantly for Soldier, when they can just invest in the MB and get the i90 crafted gear until they have more time to get the i100 stuff. You forget, not everyone is a hardcore raider. I mean if you want to dismiss the gear off as sucky, that's fine. But don't go around preaching it to other people who enjoy the gear. Honestly I like the i90 gears look more than anything. It's dyeable dungeon drops which is more than enough for me. You're pretty much saying you want overpowered crafted gear, which isn't going to happen at all.

If you haven't already noticed, crafters usually have an edge in the new content that comes out. Crafted gear is for people who have the money for it, that's it. I mean if I missed the point of your post entirely, then I'm sorry, but that's the only point I can see you making right now.

Which again if you think about it, if materia was that powerful, then everyone would gravitate towards crafted gear. But there is a trade off, it's either you spend the money and get the gear or you grind Coil. My team is on T7 right now and most of us have either crafted or i100 gear and we do just fine. This notion that crafted gear sucks, seems to stem from your inability to ween yourself off the 1.0 version of the game.

From what it sounds to me, your economy is the issue, not materia itself. You always have the option of spiritbonding and making materia yourself, nobody is putting a gun to your head and telling you to buy the materia. In the words of someone I knew on XI...some of you may know him as Welfare.

"As japanese players say, all can be gained. You just need time." - Welfare

You also have the option of not using materia. i90 Crafted...no...crafted gear in general is made for players who want to make their own builds in what they're shooting for, you don't have to get crafted gear. Just don't blame the crafters for doing their job when you're not doing anything to contribute to the problem of an unstable economy.

It was better in 1.23 when materia was actually valuable and HQ crafted gear (properly melded) surpassed dungeon drops. The new Novus sphere thingies are bringing some value back to the materia market but it's still not what it was before ARR, when spirit bonding was worth while.
Worthless? How so, the new i90 crafted gear is on par with the i100 Weathered Gear. If people want the 3 Star Gear then it's their right to invest in it. I mean I understand if you're not investing in any of the new items because you don't want to, but to call them worthless because you don't find them useful, is if I may say ignorant and quite possibly close minded to the effort that Yoshi-P made in trying to make crafting viable. You seem to be wanting to go back to the 1.0 version of the game, which people found to be most despicable.

Seriously don't understand why Yoshida went back on his own word that he'd never implement something like that, he's been something of a stickler on largely everything else (except crafting, he horribly broke his word on that too and it's ruining endgame IMO)

It's not ruining end-game at all. It's giving crafters something challenging to work towards. The game is easy enough as is Malacite. If you mean the fact that crafters can use the MB and play it like a violin, then you haven't done 3 star crafting. It's extremely difficult, and time consuming.

But I don't care, I have my Atma set aside for it, so it's whenever it comes out really. *shrug* I'm guessing it's going to play like Monk and the view where the NIN hops up on Ifrit, looks like Limit Break material.

Yeah but you don't get all the best loot, and even on normal mode the Raid bosses are virtually impossible without 4 players except for a couple of exploits, most of which got patched (like the one with the Gunzerker where you basically deal a bajillion dmg in 1 shot using a special quested gun from marcus)

You miss the point of those difficulty modes. They are designed around min/max builds. The game itself on most difficulties is doable with pretty much any build you can throw at it.

Not really, BL2 suffers from the same crap D2 did with LoD actually.

Once you get into even just True Vault Hunter, nevermind Ultimate, certain builds will just fail miserably. Moreover, BL2 was never for a moment balanced around SP - it's MP or die in that game which is a big part of why I stopped enjoying it. Even with just 2 people it can be stupidly difficult. I don't understand why they didn't balance it properly around 1 player and then just have everything scale progressively with more players like any other sane RPG would.

XI goes down the same route; there's only really a couple of viable builds for each job class in most cases, though a few jobs have a number of interesting and flexible subjob choices available to them, and occasionally interesting gear you can build around.

You have to look pretty far afield for a game that really gives you viable character customization that doesn't significantly impact your ability to do well at the game. Maybe Final Fantasy Tactics?

Cookie cutter builds is really why Mists was a huge step forwards for WoW when they nuked the talent trees, and gave you the stuff you would always take as passive abilities, or rolled them into the abilities they altered. The talents you picked were utility abilities mostly and were all more sidegrades. You couldn't fuck up a build in Mists because you could roll with whatever build you wanted and still be viable.

The Secret World didn't do a bad job of it. You had to deliberately build a character poorly for your build to really gimp you. That game was all about finding skills that synergise well together in order to make your build, and you would sometimes find an odd Weapon/Skill combo that worked well.

Payday 2 actually does pretty well with your class builds. Death Wish is built around highly optimised class and weapon builds though but lots of odd things are viable on hard, V. Hard and even Overkill depending on the mission and what builds the party are using, as well as your general skill at the game.

I guess Borderlands 2 counts too since there's plenty of ways you can build and at the very least clear all the content.

When a game like this is found, I feel the "equalness" somehow comes through as "sameness" and every customization combination feels much too alike for the game to be enjoyable.
