    Utsusemi, Invincible, Perfect Dodge. Stoneskin (and equivalent) is pretty good for smaller damages, especially when paired with Phalanx. Reprisal also helped.

    Meaningful mitigation exists (in FFXI at least); what should be rare is being virtually invulnerable for extended amount of time facing 'boss' mobs, I would guess.

    Somewhat weird to think of them this way, but HP paired with curing power is equivalent to damage mitigation.

      Speaking of Utsusemi, I pray that SE has the good sense to make Ninjutsu cost MP again in XIV.
