I was minding my own business today running to Gridania from Uldah when I passed an NPC named "Militia Outridder" who had a chocobo with him. The NPC was located in the open area with the stream just west of Camp Tranquil. I spoke to the NPC and he asked if I would help him defend the area against a Garlean Invasion to which I prompty said yes.
No sooner had I accepted to join then the event began (6:15 BST) and wave after wave of garlean soldiers came from the north towards the NPC (R20-R25). Like campaign in FFXI you just have to kill enough of them and the even ends. There was a party there already but I didnt have time to join. Unlike campaign mobs become claimed when targetted so joining a team beheest style is probably the expected way to partake in this event.
Now I was R42 at the time so didn't get any SP but I would expect you would get some kind of SP for killing them. At the end of the event there was a treasure chest spawned back at the original NPC.
Anybody else found something like this, do they happen near every one of the new outposts maybe?

What level were they? 
Was wondering what was going on.
