  • Crafting Guilds

    Ok... ready? New question.

Now that I've got all the Aetherite locations and have to kill some time while I wait for my Anima to recharge, I'm working on my crafting like a fiend. The only thing that's holding me back from progressing faster is my limited knowledge of the crafting guild's Mark system.

    My questions are 3 fold.

    1. Do you actually JOIN a crafting guild (lets just say Weaver since thats what I'm specializing in atm) or do you just do the leve quests offered by the adventurer's guild and earn your marks that way? I've visited the Ul'Dah Weaver's guild and not a single NPC gave me the option of "recruitment" like I expected. If I'm right in thinking that you need to complete crafting guildleves to earn marks, how do you actually go about turning in the finished products? I have had 2 hempen workgloves in my inventory since I accepted and began the "clearing Bentbranch" leve and noone is taking them from me. The NPC I'm supposed to turn them in to keeps telling me that I'm on a deadline and yadda yadda yadda... How in the hell am I supposed to give them to her without a "trade" option for NPCs like FFXI had? Am I doing something wrong or is there a glitch I don't know about?

    2. How much of a difference does specialized training actually provide? I know that paying to use a camps facilities adds a substantial bonus to your skill and drastically effects success rates. I just wasn't sure if the training was equally as substantial.

    3. If the marks are only gained through completing crafting guildleves, how many do you usually get for completing them? I would assume that ammassing a small casche of marks would take a goodamount of time if you only get a few hundred every time.

That was a few more than 3... I'm noticing that now... but anyone who could give me any kind of insight, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance, TGM. I know you're probably going to snipe the questions first before anyone else, lol.

    1) No, you don't join, just by leveling that craft you are in the guild I guess. I do know that the guilds offer books for sale. You buy them with guild marks. Once you hit level 20 you'll start getting craft leves that give you guild marks so you can start collecting them and then buy the books. If you see a recipe that says you need additional support, that means the books.

    2) I believe the training is the books. I did some recipes without the books though it said that they could require them. I succeeded perfectly fine BUT I was 10+ levels higher than the synth. I think as your level is closer to the synth you WILL need to have the books if you want it to succeed.

    3) The marks vary for each leve. You can increase the amount by turning in leves that you did already just like you can for gil awards.

I knew you would be the first to respond, lol. Thank you TGM.

The only thing I still wanted to know was why the NPC in Bentbranch is not accepting my hempen work gloves when I talk to her. Am I doing something wrong?

Actually the level 20 quests are specifically to join the guilds which is why you sometimes get marks afterwards. In the case of the BSM and ARM guilds though, you have to choose one or the other since they are linked. That is, if you join BSM 1st like I did, you have to wait until either 30 ARM or 30 BSM to join the ARM guild.

Thank you. That's interesting. I'll have to remember that for when I rech 20. I'm 17 now, so it's not far off.

Are you talking about level 20 PHYSICAL or lvl 20 in DoW/M?

Is it possible that you didn't make the required amount correctly? I know that if you fail the leve, when you talk to the npc they just say some random thing not associated with the leve. That's all I can think of unless the game glitched.

I'm going to say he means DoH level and not physical.

Did you make the items with the materials provided by the NPC, using the "Requested Items" button? You can not make the items on your own and then give them to the NPC.

                    Re: Crafting Guilds

Guild Marks for Hand/Land work differently from the combat classes. For the combat classes, you do not join any guild, but instead are required to equip the necessary class before accepting any Battle Leves and MUST be that class from the time you invoked the leve to the time you complete the leve. You cannot (MUST NOT) switch classes and be something entirely different upon invoking or while in the process of completing the leves. Doing so will cause you to forfeit ALL Guild Marks for those leves completed (and you may not even receive any other rewards)

Sorry Aeni, but that is not correct. My friend accepted a leve on Pugilist for Lancer guild marks and I had the same leve and activated it while he was still on Pugilist. He didn't know if it would work or not but he switched to Lancer before we killed the first mob and after the leve was done, he received his Guild Marks.

Did he get the Guild Marks for pugilist? Because my friend tested this out and went to accept a quest as a gladiator and switched to archer. He didn't get any guild marks at all, but some people said they could get guild marks but not for the job that they accepted the leve with (after invoking it)

Maybe it's just buggy as hell, but I thought I'd offer it as a caution just in case.

He got guild marks for Lancer even though he got the leve and activated the leve on Pugilist. And you are right, it could be a glitch or bug or who the hell knows with this game.

Pertaining to that thread, my son is a level 18 or 19 glad and has gotten Gladiator guild marks. He was annoyed because, while we were getting guild marks, he wasn't being offered any but eventually he got some. It's just f'in SE again with no f'in information on some of the basic shit in the game and then people get irritated and quit when they could release a basic guide or something for people.

Ugh stop spreading misinformation please. YES YOU DO JOIN THE GUILD AT RANK 20! Every single guild has a quest @ R20 that allows you to join the guild, along with a reward of 2000 marks and 20,000 gil. The only oddity is the ARM/BSM guilds which are linked and so you have to choose which guild quest to do at each interval (20>30>40>50). It's kinda weird I know since you can only make a handful of items on either class (like bronze ingots/nuggets) yet they share the quest. SE should really change that IMO but I doubt that will.

I can confirm that it is possible to recieve guild marks for a class (for example Conjurer) if you start the Leve as another class. I frequently start my Leve's as a DoH switching to whatever class I need before the first kill and I always receive the guild marks for the correct class. I can also confirm if you kill all the mobs in the wrong class then try to switch to the correct class before you touch the aethrite sliver you will not receive any marks.

It is worth noting that for monetary and item reward Leve's I frequently switch to Miner and then back to my normal class and always receive the reward. For guild mark reward leve's however I have not tried this due to the relatively high cost of failure and SE general policy of being inconsistant.
