Re: FFXIV gets a 4.0 from Gamespot
I'm still confused as to why this thread has gone on for so long.
If you like the game, play it. If you don't, don't play it.
No one is holding a bazooka to your head, shouting, "PLAY IT NOW OR DIE, HOEBAG." How is there a four page discussion on someone's opinion, that of which should be taken quite lightly?

I won't make the same mistake twice, but I will give them some time to turn things around. Fixing the chat issue with the recent patch was great but I'm still waiting for the retainer issue to be addressed. They say next week so we'll see.....and we'll see just how much they implement next week too. Ward changes? Yes. Searchable database? We'll see.
This was the exact same thing in FFXI and back then the ratings weren't nearly as low and people were still spitting acid on the reviewers and calling anyone with any kind of negative opinion about the game "idiots", "crybabies", "brats", etc.
An example:

Re: FFXIV gets a 4.0 from Gamespot
In my opinion, FFXI was near perfect. Everybody blended extremely well together, but balance was always an issue. The world and lore were always pleasent and exciting to explore. I'll admit, I was expecting more from FFXIV's release, and I do feel like it's basically the beta repackaged. Even so, FFXI wasn't the game it is today when it was first released. CoP added so much, and it was the second expansion. Granted, ToAU ruined all of that, but it goes to show that SE knows how to deliver. At least, I'm still hopeful that they will deliver.

yeah I know I can read -.- still does not change the fact that is a copy and paste, and stupid to post the same review in two diffrent places, and giving the score two times like that.
Things like this are why I dont even bother with reviews any more, or even take merit in the scores that are given.

What if you changed the company name from Square-Enix to Ubisoft? Changed the title of the game from Final Fantasy XIV to Munch's Odessey Online? But keep everything the same, right down to the name of the cities and to the races offered and the exact "pretty graphics" that you see now.
I can almost guarantee you that these same people would be slaughtering the game in their own opinions.
Oh and I totally agree with Icemage's points. "Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, shame on you."Last edited by Aeni; 10-08-2010, 10:02 AM.

Re: FFXIV gets a 4.0 from Gamespot
I seriously have to wonder if this is Komoto's fault... let's remember that with XI, Tanaka was the director. This time around he's the producer, Komoto is in charge, which means he gets the final say in everything. They should both know better, but I still can't help but wonder if things would be just a bit better if Tanaka san was still in charge.
Well, at least Today's update fixed several nuisances, and next week's update will bring the Market Ward adjustments.

The whole thing is very clunky and frustrating to use especially when you have to go through multiple menus to do things.Keep in mind I'm comparing this to every other MMORPG that came after FFXI which SE should have learned from by now. I'm aware that FFXI's UI is just as slow.

Re: FFXIV gets a 4.0 from Gamespot
What's the big complaint about it, anyways? The only time I've ever had trouble with it being slow was when I was accidentally running a CPU testing tool in the background and forgot to close it out before booting FFXIV. In my opinion, the crafting menus could use some simplification, but that's about it. Personally, I would like to see a better way to organize and manage inventory, but that's just a request. As for crafting, they could display all the information you're currently required to click through in one screen instead of making you OK everything. They could take a page from WoW's book and display a list of ecountered and learned recipes for easy reference.
