It looks like everyone is using a Wand of Tides. Why is this? mob is weak to water, or spells are water based?

Could be because they're using it to empower Drown which then empowers all your other water based spells. The game hasn't matured yet to offer gear specific to various elementals but I'm sure it's in the pipes and will be released in the next major content patch. They can associate elemental affinity with dyes/pigments which can be used to "imbue" gear as you craft them. For example, there can be a dye called "Stardust Prism Dye (Aqua)" and not only will the cloth be stained the color but as well as imbued with stats specific to that element (water) ... many creative things can be added to the current system which is really flexible but it's up to the new developers to utilize their talents.

It's not as challenging yet and I'm sure they're ratcheting up the skill level for these. Last night, I spent most of my time LMAO at a group of 15 players doing a battlecraft leve running around like headless chickens. Yes, you read that right ... a battlecraft leve ... of all things.

Thats just the body and head.

The rest is plain old iron pate armor and a survival belt.

Though this Templar junk is still inferior to the vintage haub, that matches alot better with iron plate gear!
