The videos that have leaked out so far have been with people still at low levels, I think the highest I've seen people at is about level 4 or 5. FFXI was easilly soloable at that level. The level cap during the alpha is level 20, depending on the mob level you're fighting, your job and your skill, its possible to solo in FFXI at that level.

SE have said their are guild leves that can be soloed, they don't want to exclude people from solo play as much as they were before but there hasn't been any indication yet of how long it will take to reach the level cap. As of yet, I haven't seen anyone at the cap from the alpha and at first release we're told it will be at least level 50, noone can know how long that will take.

Hmm.. I am confused to why you want WoW to stay and not for XIV to be a WoW killer.

You seem more pro XIV than WoW since nothing positive was said. Maybe you like easy paths in life? I dunno. Supposedly you're in the military, and that isn't easy, so I don't understand lol.

I doubt there will be a lot of "standing around" in FFXIV though. Mainly because you can actually SOLO in this game unlike FFXI. I hated the grind in FFXI at times though. Sitting there whacking away at the same mob, hitting the same macro over and over again got boring. Maybe there will be a less grindy feeling in this game, and more of a action type of feel, kinda like Dragon Age.
I hope not. As for the grind is mostly what i miss about ffxi. i like how it took a long time to gain lvls and how hard it was to cap out weapon skills and profesions. I realy loved the CS something thats realy lacking in alota mmos. And yea i can tell you this if i have to stand around and kill a million tank and spank birds i probably gona get burnt in a matter of weeks thats not the kinda grind im looking for. in ffxi @ first seems like more of a chalenge cuzz was not many site on it that helped out, and the lvl grouping seperated the players way to much. but it was fun learning and exploying the world, learning where to lvl @. i hope they dont lose this aspect of the game.

In FFXIV, it will still take a while to get to max. I'm sure with the way they have it, being able to solo easier, they will increase the exp needed to gain levels so that you can't just sit there and grind away none stop. I'm sure most of the people who reach cap in a few days don't have a social life either, and they don't have many people they actually talk to in game. The ones who take their time to reach max level are the ones who actually enjoy the game.

with the new sytem they are adding i would think it will be very similar to wow. SE will have to make new content all the time to kkeep up with the players who cap out fast. i know ffxi took for ever to capp out your char but ffxi was not solo friendly. You will see alota people caped early in this game hope SE dont take to long to add some endgame raiding type content.

Zone Phasing was cool but it sucked if you missed a quest and couldn't get it again or if you are trying to help a friend through it later. I do like how FFXI sort of had it with WoTG. How it was possible to access different areas by hopping between past and present. I really liked that concept.

    2) Destroy the big fragments so they dont break into smaller ones

    3) shoot the crap out of the CE and dont use Torpedoes or mines at all during the fight.

I mean really, even to anyone who has not played STO, can get this simple thing right?.... Because the player base cant -.-

People where complaining that it was to hard, and I told them that if they had to fight anything in STO that required eve half the thought it took to kill a boss in FFXI, they would crap their pants.
Warhammer Online had quite possibally the most hialrious boss fights in an MMO I've played. They are just as likely to gltich out and insta-rage on spawn, forcing you to reset the instance then they are to act normally or just simply do nothing .

Reminds me of one Tomb instance (Tombs are more like 6 man BCNMs then actual dungeons since you have to earn Glyphs from repeatable Public Quests (WAR's FoV system) to be able to enter) I had with my guild. Basically it involved staying within a certain range of him so he wouldn't keep smapping a knockback attack to knock you to off the platforms you were standing on and to the floor which puts a nasty DoT on you (kills even tanks in seconds if you don't get off it fast). Basically the boss froze and stopped moving, only attacking anythone within melee range who would get one shotted. Basically everyone was stuck there spamming ranged attacks on him until the actual rage timer kicked in and he wiped us. The vent chat for that Tomb fight was hilarious.

The zone phasing thing was kind of cool. Entire areas would become completely different after you finished a series of quests. Back when I was playing WoW I wanted to get some help on a quest from CK but he had done that series before me and he couldn't help with them because our versions of the zone were completely different. That was just really cool to me.

The auto-pug system sounds awful. Just like the cross-realm battlegrounds, it'll serve to dilute the player community further. Servers pretty much stopped having an identity when the battlegrounds were merged and I can't see this and the rampant server migration helping matters.

WoW is different. In pre-WotLK WoW the little story tidbits you find are almost always side stories pertaining to a specific zone (stop the blood elves' experiments in the Netherstorm) or a specific NPC (Trion reforms the Order of the Silver Hand). In TBC they introduced some over-arching story content with the demon invasion at the beginning of the expansion, which was really just a way to explain why people can go to the Outlands. Then there is the whole Illidan/Kael'thas/Vashj deal which is pretty much introduced and solved in a few quests that culminate in those respective boss fights.

WoW shows you a ton of text and NPCs but very little of it has any relevance to the story of the entire game. Mostly you just solve local issues.

Now, WotLK has actually introduced some cut scenes to the game as well as some other nifty things like zone phasing. It's still nowhere near the level of FFXI, though.

I think the auto-PUG isn't all that bad. I wouldn't want to be put in groups automaticly. But the way the game lets you input different information in different fields would be very helpful when you search for specific roles in FFXIV. Instead of showing everything and let the player read out their comments. Especially with the armory system where the class can train however they want. Instead if looking for a "disciple of war", being able to specifically look for anyone who can "tank" would make searching for party members a whole lot easier.

I have a few WoWing friends and they were talking about the current auto-PUG system. When I had it explained to me, I couldn't help but feel that it was very bureaucratic. Like Brazil (the Terry Gilliam movie; not the country). All sorts of "here's the way we do it because we're so bloated and cumbersome that we need billions of additional services to function."
