Why are you using this word when talking about a BETA?

Betas aren't there for you to enjoy yourself, they're there so companies don't have to spend money on people to test their games.

If they stick in a system that lets you say that you found a glitch at a certain spot like the "Gm call" now in FFXI, the PS3 players might actually beta test. Might be a long run though.

Well what Tanaka said in a previous interview was they want the Beta up & running ASAP so they can make any fixes or adjustments needed before launch.
I for one am glad they are getting so much more closely involved with the player base this time around right from the start.

From what I read it sounds like they want to hold beta tests where people actually beta test, seeing as they said servers would only be up hours at a time. So those that are just getting into the beta to demo the game aren't going to be happy because they're not going to be able to do much. PS3 gamers would only dick around, PC gamers might actually test, though I know that's a stretch these days.

Also, these days I'll take what Joystiq, Kotaku and Destructoid are saying over any feeble attempts at gaming "journalism" that IGN, Gamespy and Gamespot try to make.

They should have it for both systems.

The PC is different than the PS3.

There could be issues on the PC version that arent on the PS3, and Vice Versa. Just like the boat glitch. It only works on the PC (Or was it the PS2?), and not for the other systems.

And I don't doubt they will have you download it. They might mail a disc as having a few thousand people trying to download the same game will be an issue.

I am going to blame SE for that.. But I always had a problem downloading patches cause I was on Dial up. Had to go to my friends and use his DSL.

Oh I'm sure there will be but I just wonder if it will be a d/l or disc. Like I said, imagine the server load and the frustration if people have as many issues d/ling it as they do d/ling a FFXI update. lol

Why would they beta test only on PC when it's being released for both? I guarantee there will be PS3 beta testers just like there was with PS2.

It may be only for PC, only SE knows in the end. Imagine the d/l that would be on the PS3. And then imagine the server load as an assload of people try to d/l it. It might be best to leave it for PC. LOL

Those joystiq guys are morons. They (SE) themselves never said it was going to be PC only.. But that the beta will start on windows first.. Sigh.. That's how rumors start.

Ya I haven't been keeping tabs on the beta since I figured it wouldn't start until early next year. Can we finally put the stupid "Beta in September!" rumors to rest now?

For those of you holding fast to the hope that you'll get your hands on Square Enix's next MMO, Final Fantasy XIV, before the game's eventual release, it appears as though you'll need to get your hands on a Windows PC first. In a recent interview with Game Watch, FFXIV director Hiromichi Tanaka said the game's beta release will be on PC only.

Starting with a closed population of 10,000 people and eventually opening up to the public, the beta could be running at full capacity by as early as Summer 2010, according to Tanaka. Hopefully, by that point we'll be playing Final Fantasy XIII -- in English -- and no longer cracking jokes about FFXIV releasing before XIII ... Hopefully.

Final Fantasy XIV beta will be PC-only
