I think what Cedric-Archaon is referring to is all the spells you have to buy as a WHM (I really pity RDM in this regard lol). You do get some gil/items in group PT but it is by far not enough to cover all your spell costs. I'm level 20 now for example, and cure3 (level 21) costs about 6k, and raise (level 25) costs about 5-6k and both are very important WHM spells. Not to mention spells like protea2 and inviji which are also important. When I'm gil hunting I tend to get maybe 2k-3k gil per hour, and that's a high estimate. Spell costs only go up too, and on top of that you need to get new armor. Can be a bit annoying. There are other ways to make gil too tho which are probably faster than what I'm doing.
The in game loot distribution system works very well, basically you can roll on anything that drops, and gil is disrupted evenly. There's just not a lot of it when you level early on and divide it among 6 PT members.
