  • Morgenstern KSNM

Poked through the archives a little w/no luck, but of the 3 KSNM fights you can get a Morgenstern from...

(all lvl 75, 6 member party, 30 Kindred Seal BCNMs)
    Contaminated Colosseum
    Moa Constrictors
    Seasons Greetings

Which of these is the preferred try to get a Morgenstern?

    Thanks

    Contaminated Coliseum.

You need about 4 SMN if you're doing it right, other two can leach or you can toss in another SMN to be absolutely certain. If people know what they're doing, it's an almost guaranteed win with no deaths. On Diabolos, the SMN linkshell does this run almost as a rule... well this and Double Dragonian, whenever we need money. Lots of Morgensterns and Thrysustaubs get lost in the shuffle since so many of us have them now. Just spread out around him, sub WHM, and he should only manage to hit one or two of you with the Very Bad Breath move. This is easily fixed by the other SMN, or you if you decide to go on WHM. I think we used Fenrir, although I can't remember if it was because he's weak to that or if I brought along a pre-70 SMN. I remember Eclipse Bites... meh

If your team is more then competent you can do CC with 3 smns and a bst, all you have to do is wait for the initial call beast timer to be up before engaging. I've done this BC 10 times and have seen 3 clubs, this was of course because I went in hoping for Cassie earring. Also just to throw it out there, the brown belt item drops about 1/3 of the time, you might be able to use that as incentive to get people to help with this one.

Yeah, SMN is unfortunately a lot like BST... you really can't gain competency at the job if you've partied the whole way up. Until you've spent a few levels soloing things, you won't understand how aggro works, how far you need to be away to cast something that isn't a new avatar, or what to do if things go wrong. Those are all things you learn the hard way, usually after losing a few dozen k's worth of exp. A competent SMN on the other hand is usually one of your better pulling jobs can sneak through magic aggro zones like Ro'Maeve and sky without using oils or powders, and generally surprise you with how useful they can be when push comes to shove. An incompetent SMN is basically a WHM with less spells and the occasional flashy group buff.

If you can find the 4 competent SMNs, however, Contaminated Coliseum is the way to go. Drop rates are streaky and annoying, sure, but you'll waste less seals on failures if you go with that one.
