So, I don't see how strenuous being a WHM really is. This coming from a long time (3 years) melee-onry player. Even if I was not new to the game, I was still new to the concept of being a mage and let me tell you, I certainly got my **** together by level 12 in the Dunes =/

Well, saying strenuous can mean different things to different people. While I don't find the job strenuous in a good exp/merit pt, it can be in a bad one. I know that I would say 80% of my pick up exp pts were bad ones. I was lucky to find an AWESOME static later in my whm career and I think my lucky stars for that! I remember one time that I died 16 times in one week in pick ups......../sigh.

I think the strenuous part of being a whm is that you are the very first person they point at when someone dies. Now it might not matter that you had 50mp and were resting at the time while the blm/rdm/smn had 200+ mp and was too busy nuking/having avatar out. Nope, they'll point the finger at the whm and give you grief. A few other things that aggravate me are A) melee's yelling for haste and not realizing that hasting everyone in the pt is a HUGE drain on mp pools. B) people in alliance yelling at you for erase or regen when its a pt only spell. C) anyone who is barking at you for a cure/erase/bar-/-na/etc when your in the middle of doing something else, like you can cast multipe spells at once! D) mages in a pt/alliance that refuse to do anything other than what their main job is about (i.e. smn that refuses to cure.....yes I'm talking about YOU SOL!) I'm sure I could think of more but don't feel like aggravating myself. LOL

i have seen a fair share of bad whms even at 60 it comes down to how bad are the really if you dont die ^^ but on the pling note i dont take a pl to help unless i fully know people can perfomr their jobs. hopefully they will get better in time.

Ah but I said melee, and I do not consider ninja a melee in an exp pt. I know I've heard from my son, who has a 75 nin, how bad some mages are with haste on the nin tank. But let's also not forget that rdm has haste too and if the whm is a moron, the rdm, if there is one and there usually is, should know to pick up the slack.

Yeah i know in a traditional pt it may be better to have rdm haste. I'm talking WHM/BRD/NIN/NIN/WAR/WAR or 4xNIN or any combination of NIN and WAR. The goal is for the whm to haste us all. I know it can be rough on them but the good ones can get it done ^^.

If I was the WHM and *knew* that I had to do that, high level or not, I'd certainly won't be packing my usual food. Something like Wizard's Cookies will be good for accelerating mp regen. Sometimes when I feel the PT is on a hot streak, I wait till my food expires (Which is why I only eat regular food because HQ is too long of a time to wear) and start using cookies and keep that hot streak going.

I think I posted in another thread about preparation. This is what I mean. That's why I spend nearly two hours "prepping" for an exp outing the next night so that I can just turn my flag on and not worry. There's plenty of time to go fishing when you LFP as long as you're prepared.

Well I never pt'd with 4 nin and a brd below lvl 73 so all my advice is for that lvl range. At that range, the nins do not need haste. The bard can march them and thats good enough. The mobs die so quckly there is no reason to waste 160 mp a cycle on haste. Your also roaming so there isn't a lot of resting going on sometimes and that mp can be a precious thing.

Well if you are only giving the nins march you are gimping your pt as far as i am concerned. Haste + double minuet >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> march. To be honest with you, if I am leading a tp burn pt and the mage can't handle hasting us I usually end up looking for a new mage. All melee have shadows, much less damage is being taken than in a typical party and it should be quite easy for the mage to keep us hasted.

Well on that I disagree. The mobs are killed so fast that we are constantly roaming. With them dropping so fast and bouncing from one nin to the next, there is no need for Haste. At a minimum of 12k a pt, thats with a poor brd and depending on mob, I really don't see an issue.

Well, if you are taking that little damage and fighting mobs that don't use any negative status attacks, and roaming, you should get a RDM anyway. Refresh, convert, fast cast haste (less casting and recast time). WHM are overspecialized in defense for decorative-weapon-WS-spam parties. Like PLD, they do better in a place where mobs actually fight back, like Lufaise or Uleguerand.

This is why, if I'm forming a party and I know there's some jackasses and newbs in the PT, the healer position will go to the WHM. I'm sorry, but insurance > MP regaining in these kinds of situations. You realize just how much exp you lose at level 71 when you can only eat R1s. Last outing, I think I died three times in a one hour period and I just dropped the nubby PT and went back to Jeuno. Stupid Rank 10 arseholes...
