  • WHM Hate Question

I'm in a pt in the dunes one day and everything is going fine until we run into a gob.
Were doing okay against it until I Cure 2 the main tank.
The gob AGs and I ask the other tank(Whos at full health BTW) to provoke the mob.
He then calls me crazy saying he would die.
The battle proceeded downhill: I died and the pt zoned.(The main tanks voke didnt come in time><)

My question is : Am I in the wrong asking the other tank to voke 4 me? Or is it just that individual?

No your not in the wrong but I really don't see any need for cure 2 in a battle in the dunes unless main tanks health is really low. The other guy should have tried to voke it off you though.

yeah being a pally I really think he should have voked though just because he has the highest chance of surviving the gob if your guys are going to zone the least the tank could have done was voke it off you coupled with invince he would survive a gob a lot longer then you and with you free if he gets low while running you can cure him. I think that tank was just being an ass =/

to add to this post: what are some ways you control your hate at lower levels? (when you have no enmity - gear)

How low are we talking here? At Valkurm level there's really not much you can do but try and avoid using Cure II. If you're careful with your curing then you don't need Enmity- gear at all in the levels before you can actually use it. Just don't use hate intensive spells like Flash or higher level Cures too much and you'll be fine without any Enmity-.

Yeah. Valkurm is a bit rough for white mages. I didn't have that bad a time there personally, but I know some friends who really did.

As has been said, you've got to keep your curing to the lowest level possible, as often as possible. You also have to be good at guessing times/hate levels. If you've just used several cures and you think the next one will draw hate, try to put the next one off just an extra bit longer so that your tank gets his voke back. Even a five second delay can save you from a good hit if you do this right. I guess the last bit of advice i have is that juice is really helpful in the dunes. ESPECIALLY FOR PALADINS. If you carry some on you, you can donate a few to your paladin if you have one. It's good for you to. I leveled cooking to 30 just to be able to make pineapple juice. Ummm. ... that's all the advice I have off hand.

... ... And your back up tank was incredibly dumb/rude to not voke. .... Especially if he was really a back up tank, and not thief/war or some such (although just about anyone with voke can tank in dunes for a bit if they have to). I hope you kicked him from the party afterwards.

Oh, back to my comment about guessing timing and hate levels. This is really key if you need to get off a bigger cure such as cure two. If you're able to consistently cast it right before the tank gets his voke back, the mob will start turning towards you but go back to the tank before he is able to hit you (assuming you are standing far away like you should be). That's the best way to heal big chunks of hp. Even if it isn't quite yet an emergency (obviously in an emergency you can't wait for that voke).

I forgot to add - if by 'lower levels' you mean anywhere that's low but still after Lv25, remember that Regen is your king.

One thing I found in the lower lvls, mages tend to think you have to have every point of hp healed. So someone is down 10 and your cure them. All this does is builds up unnecessary hate.

Of course, you have to weigh other factors into this. What is the persons max hp? Are they a job with low def? Are you fighting something with hard hitting aoe's (gobs, etc.)? What is the average dmg the aoe does? So what lvl can the person be down to and not die? Once you figure this out for all your pt members, you'll know where to keep the hp at comfortably without curing like a maniac and building up hate.

At that low lvl, the WHM's may not have time to figure this out or dont know how to.
