  • I kneel before your greatness

I had respect for whm's because of what the job entails. But now that i have played as a whm, i kneel before all the whms that continue to level up even thought they have to deal with so much crap.

I got my whm to lvl 16. I has to be the most demanding job on this game. You have to pay attention to everyone's hp, make sure the monster doesn't attack you, and look around to see if any aggro monsters are near.

Its torture being in a pt with one person that doesn't pull his/her weight. A road to certain insanity if the whole pt sucks.

When I start playing FFXI again(quit 5 months ago) I'm going to start my whm and at least get him to lvl 36. Might try going all the way, not sure, only time will tell.

Well, thank you all for making sure I don't die while I hold the aggro of the monsters we fight ^_^

Yep it's annoying us whm's can sit back in our chairs we have to be aware at all times.

Just wait when you have to start using things like erase, paralyna, silena, etc that's when you need to focus 100% on everything that's going on

      LOL! ^_^

Yeah, I have that to look forward for too. Its all good though, I like playing the really challenging jobs.

The good thing is, being in bad pt's makes being in great ones all the more enjoyable. Wish people would try harder at their job, but then whats the fun in that? If everyone was really good, then you would when all the time and that would get boring.

      But um....yeah..lol

Well the advantage to haivng good melee is that if all the melee really care about their job, and one melee knows that he's the weakest link, he'll try even harder to pick up his pace in the party. I just entered dunes with my WHM, went from 9-11 in the same party. Only deaths were when Gob Butcher aggrod PT, and someone trained sand bats into us. (at the same time).

If you have a good backline, and your melee are in up to date gear, then any party should be easy. Except for status spamming monsters-

I have been in better parties as a whm than as a war. Which would make since.

Just wish more people would try to stay up to date with their armor. I mean I'll be in Qufim and people will have armor that is
meant for people about five levels below them. Then they wonder why they die so easily, lol.

I just can't wait to start playing again, I'm really missing FFXI

Haste whore, lol, he's right. A little tip, not that a mage has a hard time lfg anyway but it may help. Always haste the PLD, THF and your friendly DRK. A WHM that keeps me hasted without having to ask, helps me to keep the mob off the mages... But haste or not we DRK can never get TP like those THF... or you SAM types <.<

:spin: coming from a DRK. Actually in the low 40s it's hard as hell to haste more people than the tank. My haste policy was tank, then whichever melee got TP slower. I've never had to haste a THF though, even THF/WAR.

Oh well, time to level DRK.... :spin:

Welcome to the wonderful world of being a white mage ^^.

It really is fun for me though. Nothin is better than those times you just get perfectly in the grove and are sending out erase/haste/regen/cures in perfect timeing one after the other, knocking off status ailments before the mob's animation finishes ^^.

                    Thank you ^_^

When I get a new job (got layed off) I'll start playing again. I can't wait

Too bad I have to start all over again. I had

                    lvl16 whm
                    lvl31 war
                    lvl 8 blm
                    lvl 7 mnk
                    lvl 5 rng
                    lvl 15 bst

                    Its all good though.

I can't wait to get haste and the such, sounds really fun.

when I was lower level it was hard to haste multiple people because it net quite a bit of hate back then-- you can really tell when you have a lesser skilled tank-- and its a lot of mp (even for me, tarutaru) but have to choose your haste target well at the lower levels and a little later can get a rdm to help you out good rdms haste

Yeah I'll have to choose well on who to use haste on, I'm going to be an Elvaan.

I was thinking about leveling up my war first so I can make the money to get a astral ring or two, that would help greatly.

Oh yeah. An astral ring or two would be an incredible help to you. Especially in the first few levels of the game (up to 32 ish, imo, although it would still be great to have afterwards).

Leveling up a warrior just to get astral rings though ... could be a tedious process involved in a job you don't really want to be doing (or do you?). I mean, you'd also have to level that warriors sub, and all of that stuff.

I had a high leveled thief friend help me get my astral ring early on by hunting a pair himself (very nice of him ^^). If you can find anyone to do that sort of stuff for you, it could save lots of time.

I'm not just going to level up warrior just for that. I really like warrrior and also plan on having it as a sub for paladin. I don't think I could level a job for the only reason to get astral rings, lol!

Well, it's not as bad as that, really, at least after 30 or so. The first 30 levels do, well, suck. Okay, they suck really bad, filled with "tanks" that have no clue what a PLD does. (A quote from one: "I should sub DRK so I can be a damage dealer and tank!" or "I like that I can be a backup healer"... needless to say, after the 2nd fight in a row that got me killed, I disbanded. Not once did our "backup healer" PLD bother curing me or himself....)

After 30 most parties seem to have more of a clue, and I think the job actually gets easier.

90% of the job can be done by adjusting chat filters so you only see the damage taken by party and 'effects on party'. The rest can be discarded.. I don't care about how much damage the melees do.

Have a few standard macros for Cures (/ma "Cure III" <st> sorts of things), Blindna, Poisona, Erase and then a couple for 'special annoying attacks' depending on what you're fighting.. Paralyna and Silena for Toramas, for example.

The only sucky part of post-30 whm is when you get into sucky pt's that somehow don't understand how to control hate. My fave was when a NIN/WAR was told, or 'ordered' to be more precise since he got yelled at when he did provoke.. to provoke so that the THF could SATA onto him... and then the THF never did the SATA so the SAM that was pulling ended up taanking....

The SAM of course died despite me spending 600mp curing him and me... and finally the NIN got fed up and violated the orders and voked... A nearby party raised the SAM...

And I got yellled at for 'wasting MP raising the SAM midbattle..'

"Um, I didn't... The other party raised him."
"Then why," said the RDM, "did you go through 600 mp?"
"Because you never cast Refresh on me, you never once helped cure, not even when I had hate, and we have a SAM tanking because the THF has yelled at the NIN for provoking...."

I disbanded then, just as protectra wore (so it had been precisely 30 minutes). Not once in that time did I get refresh...

So, okay, I guess WHM still gets a lot of crap for no reason... but /blist is good for that. There are some people who I just refuse to pt with. (Like the 68 PLD that uses Holy when the mob is coming in from the puller, where most PLD's would use Flash...)

WHM's aren't "great", just patient... sometimes. We get to see idiocy from special viewpoints (a BLM can deal with a crappy tank by scaling back damage, RDM usually doesn't get much hate.. but WHM, especially before AF's -enmity can pick up quite a bit of hate... moreso from bad tanks that can't figure out how to self-cure for hate control or to provoke consistently not just when the mob turns to the mages). We also get to see exceptional tanks where we get to cast just Haste and RegenIII and then sit out the rest of the fight.
