Well, would you rather go wait around in a party of 2, or wait for an invite from a more complete party, if you know you will be getting other invites soon anyways? "If you do not join NOW, I am not going to invite you (if I ever get a party togather)" from a 1-man party just isn't all that attractive, especially to people with other options.
The fact is, idealogy aside, some jobs are more wanted/needed at certain levels then others. WHM at the beginning, RDM and BRD later on. This gives them a leg up on others when it comes to party selections. You can scream and moan all you want about how it's not fair, but hey, life is not fair, and this is the way the game's set up to be.
A party does have to start up somewhere, which was what I tried to address. After 30, 40 levels of playing, you are bound to run into some good players. These are people who you'd want to invite first. Hopefully, you have made a good impression on them as well from the partying, so they'd be inclined to join your 1 man party.
After 40, I don't even bother try to start a party from 0 (or 1, rather) If I do not see 2 or so people I know around who'd like to party with me, I just go farming and wait for an invite. I tend to get better group dunamics this way too.
After 40~50, random invites and standing LFG just doesn't work all that well. Which is why you really should start get to know the people who have compatible schedules and are at similar levels. Forming a static is even better. If you are having trouble doing that... you are going to have some serious proplem in this game as a conventional job... and might find BST an easier job to play.
