  • Qufim has turned me into a bastard

Just when I didn't think it was possible to hate an area as much as I hated Valkrum Dunes, enter Qufim, before Qufim I was a happy go lucky Zen White Mage, after being in Qufim I am constantly pissed off, and ready to jump down someones throat at the drop of a hat. I have become unbelievably picky with my party selection, "I don't have anyone else yet, but with you in the party it will be easy to get others to join." no longer flies with me, because usually when someone says this the first thing they do is invite 4 more warriors. There is nothing wrong with a 1 WHM, 5 WAR group if you love down time, and struggling against VTs, if you aren't going to take the time to build an effecient party, than I have no business in your party. Which brings me to my next point.

Pushy people who think they know how to do my job, better than I do. Here are a few pearls of wisdom I have received during my adventures in Qufim.

"Don't heal the person the monster is fighting, you will generate lots of hate."

Ooops, my bad all this time I thought I was supposed to keep people alive. I will be sure to let more people die in the future.

"Please only use Cure I, you are generating too much hate."

Now granted Cure 1 is more than enough in certain situations like against toughs and what not, it does not work against ITs who hit for 40+ on average with high damage special attacks. All it takes is a few criticals, or a special attack like Screwdriver before I am forced to burn a div seal, or Cure III. My Cure II is capped so it is more effecient than Cure I when you factor in recast times and stuff like that. Nobody ever had trouble voking off of me when I was using it in Dunes, hell people could even voke off of me when I did a Div Seal Cure II in battle for 180 on one voke. So why can't my average Qufim party handle the hate generated by a Cure II.

Just because you are in Qufim does not make you a know it all, I don't mind feedback, but when you are questioning my competence when you have never played a White Mage in any capacity. I tend to get irate, I know I am good at what I do and I have more than enough proof on my friends list.
A spoony bard by anyone's standards.

LOL, in Qufim I had a whm cast a Divine Seal Cure III on me for 300+ hp, i was the only real tank, and my sub was underleveld. I kept that damn Giant on me for that whole battle. No one else got hit. It was a JP party and I was the only American, they were impressed. Now that cure I B.S. was stupid. IF YOU CAN'T KEEP A MOB OFF OF A WHM USING CURE II, YOU SUCK AS A TANK, BOTTOM LINE!!!!! Sorry to say it only gets worse, Yuhtunga and Yhoator are just bad sometimes. Just keep looking forward to Crawlers Nest.

You know, speaking as a WAR who has recently switched to WHM for party reasons, I had no idea that the WHM got a message for evrey player's protectras dropping. In the past I've given a quiet 'Prot down' when it dropped, and never heard any White Mage say anything about how clear the message was.

Usually I've missed the protect down message in battlespam, and only see that the symbol is gone a few miniutes later. (like when the white mage is resting before recasting)

Yes, I agree it's annoying to have the obvious pointed out like that... but unless you tell us, (politely) we have no idea.

Granted I've also been one of those freakish warriors who /kept track of the mage's mana/ so maybe I'm expecting too much of my former fellows.

just wait until you get raise mwahahahhaha. just remember you are the rare job in places like qufim kazham, personally i despise qufim and valk and dreaded returning there, but unless u find friends who can group with reliably, best of luck, i also suggest leading a party this way uc an invite who and what u want, no more beinginvited to 20 war/4 monk etc crap, that i loathe,

I probably don't completely know about your situation but:

                  A) I find it priority as a PT leader that I find a WHM before finding other PT members. There's nothing worse than having 5 members and no WHM/RDM/SMN is available to join. If I don't find those three, I don't make one. Really, saying you have a WHM in an invite really matters.

                  B) I recommend you ask the person asking you to start a PT with, what their ideal PT setup would be. This will let you avoid the 5 melee 1 mage groups.

                  C) I've rarely used Cure II when I played WHM or RDM in my Qufim days. Are you casting regen? Are you enfeebling the enemy (slow, para, dia)? With Regen and the enfeebles on, I rarely had to use cure II. In all my groups, I insist on having at least 2 mages, that way both can cast Cure I when the WHM starts to fall behind on cures.

                  D) Cure II IS a lot of hate at that level. When the melee are averaging 20-30 per hit and you come in with a 90HP cure, the monster will turn. I had a tough time as a warrior with WHMs that spam Cure II simply because my hate keeping tools weren't enough to hold hate. Remember that not every melee is the same and some don't have provoke. For example, I had a PT with:
                  -Warrior (me)
                  -Thf/mnk (normal pre-33)
                  -Drg/War (paper-thin defense)
                  -BLM
                  -RDM
                  -WHM

It's obvious who should be main tank. When you're left with just boost and provoke as hatekeeping tools, spamming cure II is not something that I want.

I Despise snooby WHM's, i get the whole "It will be easier to get others to join with you" and i work with it, and it ends up working 90% of the time, we get the rest of the pt members within 5 mins and it aint all just WAR's its a good party, and whenever we have a party and im not the only WHM, i always find that the other WHM always seems to be so damn snobby! AND cant do his job right, always sitting on his ass with full MP during a battle while im healing away.

Cavill, considering you probably consider yourself a competant WHM, maybe they won't heal the tank because they know that you can handle the heals for that fight. It is actually a fairly common tactic for (when in parties with 2 WHMs) one healer to rest while the other handles the heals for one particular battle.
                      --------------------------------------------

I agree Xien. He briings up good points for the most part. But i believe that sometimes some of those options aren't available. For example, on Phoenix, Crawlers and Garlaige are practically empty compared to Yhoator and Yuhtunga. Why? Because a lot of people go off to level an advanced job. Which for me means, fewer people/job choices to make a party around so you may not have an opportunity to make your own party  . Infact not even an hour ago in Crawlers there was just enough people in the whole place for 5 parties (includes people outside of lvl range) whereas in Yhoator there are usually just as many looking for a raise (slight exageration but alot of people there need raises).
                      --------------------------------------------

On to the original poster's umm.... post. I understand your plight. Yhoator kinda did that to me. My 2nd to last xp session there ended in about 30 minutes handing out raises (only one person tipped too  ). With the recent influx of PS2 players leveling my BLM sub will be nightmare-ish. But I will definitly make sure I am the party leader so I can boot someone who repeatedly ignores my advice (I've lvled WAR, THF, WHM, and BLM to Valk-ranged levels so I have more experience than most of the PS2 players playing their jobs). Fortunately in the one xp session with PS2 players they were fairly competent /cheer.

But yeah, try to be party leader if you can so you can get rid of people that don't listen to some input from others and simply dismiss it as some pushy prick (though there is a line to how far someone can go).

HAHA, snobby whm's. When I partied in beta I was a whm. The blm's are snottier (please don't turn this comment into a flame war), one in beta was a taru blm and had on level one gear. He died. Here's our convo following the incident.

Him: YOU F(&(*&ING KILLED ME!!!!! WHY DIDN'T YOU HEAL ME.

Me: I healed you, you caused me all of my MP because I healed you. You were causing too much hate. DON'T START CASTING UNTIL THE MOB IS AT HALF HEALTH, THEN NUKE IT TO DEATH.

Him: You're the lousiest whm i've ever partied with you can't even heal.

Me: I know healing with no mp makes a whm great.

Him: Shut the F&@#k up before I report you to a GM.

Me: I haven't violated any user agreements, he can't do anything.

Him: I QUIT!!!!! I'm gonna log because of our sucky ass whm.

                        (After he leaves)

Everone in party: Thanks Rodin ^^, now let's get someone else, that guy was a freaking asshole. He must've been like nine or something.

We got another blm and leveled happily ever after.

I find that most new whm's get pretty stressed about their job and get pretty snotty. >.>;; They feel that they are needed in order to level (well... they kinda are) and so a bad pt means they can just go somewhere else.
