    Who woulda guessed it a whm/sam looks cool i may try that or ill just stay whm/smn i donno yet go on my other thread too see a pick of a galka and a hume whm/sam they look like monks in real life with armor its coool

        Its clear to see you are very excited about getting FFXI. Enthusiams is good but just maybe turn the volume down a little bit?

        As a WHM you would do better by not having a sub job of SAM. A WHM should not (in general) sub any fighting type job as it will be wasted as they NEVER fight in team battles. In case you missed that WHM NEVER fight in team battles.

        A sub job of SMN would be much better but it will take you months of playing (at least level 30) before you can even aquire the job of SMN and even then it will be useless in a team situation until you get the SMN powerful spells (lvl 65+ required).

        Like you I am aiming for WHM/SMN and the route I am taking is:
        Start as TaruTaru. Main job = WHM.
        Level 18 Get Sub job quest completed.
        Sub BLM and level it until you are happy on its level.
        Switch back to WHM and level. Repeat leveling WHM and BLM as required until WHM is lvl 60-65.
        Get SMN Prime Avatars using WHM with BLM sub job.
        Go back to SMN, start leveling SMN with WHM as sub.
        Once SMN is up to a nice high level then switch back to WHM with SMN sub job and you are all done.

        The role of the summoner is limited at best. As the role of SMN stands I can't actually see any use for it excepect for being an excellent sub job for WHM.

        All in all should take you about 9-18 months depending on how fanatically you play.

              what are you soloing? are u farming? theif makes an infintally better sub. doing maat fight? oh wait... you have no subjob for that fight. fighting some big named mob? sub redmage for phalanx so u don't get waxed, in anycase whitemage /sam is a pipedream, don't encourage him

                whatever. whm can melee in pts if theyre fighting something that doesnt have a devastating area attack, like crabs. whm need to keep up their weapon skills just as much as melees, or any other job for that matter.

                  no, they don't need to be as up to date as melees, however yes u can melee. subbing a melee job to a mage is going tomake me ask one question. how good is your fishing skill? because thats all your going to be doing sam is a terrible subjob beforelvl 60 for melees, and if i see a lvl 60 whm/sam lfg, i'm sure as hell gonna pass over him unless he has a comment saying he can switch to blm, red,sum, he will be ignored. if i was looking for a paladin for my group, i would invite a paladin, now some white warrior ghetto crap

                    I was trying to emphasis the point that WHM shouldn't fight in teams. Of course there are times when you shall be hitting things but he won't be farming for gil / or on weapon skill raising stints for a long time yet. At 38 I almost ever never use my weapons to hit things with.

                    At level 1 playing solo he will need to whack things a bit of course, he has no other way of killing anything, but once he hits level 10 and starts partying in teams people will just up and leave his team if he starts fighting. I know I would.

                    We see to many WHM fighting instead of healing and we don't need any more of that nonsense.
