  • Invis + sneak + deodorize

i am pretty excited that i will be getting all 3 of these soon... my question is will this get you by every monster in the game?

has anyone ever tried walking past a monster with these on and it attacked still?????

would be so helpful if it got passed all...

You only need invisible and sneak in most cases. I haven't yet found a monster I had to use deodorize on, although tigers might aggro to sound and smell...

Anyway, yes. They will get you past any moster. Most humanoids will aggro to sight (i.e, for giants, orcs, yagudos etc you will only need invisible), other enemies (bats, quadavs and pugils for example) will aggro to sound, so you'll only need sneak for those. In dungeons it's usually a good idea to put on sneak and invisible.

You cannot get missions from other kingdoms unless you switch allegiance, which is quite cost-intense.

Up to rank 4, you get missions in your hometown, afterwards this'll take place in Jeuno, Ru'lude Gardens.

If you're talking about the mission to get rank 3, however, you always have to report back to your country's consulate in the foreign country before you report back to your hometown.

The only time you'll need Deorderize is when your HP is in the yellow/red, and you have casted sneak/invis to avoid aggro mobs. Deo is basicially to cover up the smell of "blood" when your HP is in yellow/red. Mobs that can smell, like Hounds and tigers, will aggro you from very very far away. So watch your HP before you try to sneak/invis past mobs that can aggro you.

Hmm.. now it's known that undead (Wights etc) aggro you from very far away if your HP is in the yellow, even more so in orange/red. Do they "smell" you too and hence, would deo fix it? I'm having a hard time imagining a wight smelling blood.

thanks for info on the kingdoms/mission.

also thanks for the info on deodorize... never knew you could use it for that...

no more smelling my blood monsters.

                    I don't believe that's true.

Echo was nailed quite well in Sea Serpent's Grotto with Sneak/Invis/Deodor on.

She has since gone back with just sneak and full HP, and not been noticed at all.

If you read the text for deodorize, it's not so much for being "detected", it's for being "pursued"... ie, if a Tiger aggs you and you invis, it will still find you... since it now knows your scent... you would have to invis and deodor to lose it.

Deodorize isn't very useful at all, in other words.

Pursued, huh? The fact that someone is using sneak/invis indicates that the mobs in that area are too strong for them.. so if they do aggro, the person would be dead before they could cast deo and invis on themselves. *sigh*

                      Sounds rather useless.

Actually Deo is very useful when you really need it. Like I said, when you're HP is in the yellow/red, mobs that can "smell" will aggro you even if you're invis/sneak. I'll give 2 good examples when Deo is needed.
                        1. Your PT just killed off a very tuff mob in Necro that got everyone in the red. Everyone needs to to rest to regen. But you know a mob will spawn soon that can smell "blood". So the WHM/RDM casts sneak/deo on everyone. Everyone rests, but in a few seconds a Hound spawns right in front of everyone. It doesn't attack. Since no one needs invis, the WHM/RDM can cast deo/sneak till everyone is healthy enough to attack the Hound.
                        2. RDM is in a PT, and is main healer. The mob everyone is attacking is in a narrow hall and doing AOE. RDM needs to stay far back to keep from getting hit, but there are aggro mobs near him/her. But using Sneak will prevent aggro(while under Sneak and Deo, you can still cast magic). RDM needs to Convert, but the mobs around him/her can "smell". RDM casts Deo and then Convert. No aggro.

Another good example is for soloing. You just killed off a mob and took almost all of your MP. You are surrounded by mobs that will aggro you when you rest, and there are higher lvl aggro mobs near the zone. You don't have enough to tele out, but have enough to deo/sneak or invis. You rest. No mob aggros you. If you can zone fast, you zone. If not you rest till you have enough MP to tele.

As I said. A mob that can "smell" can aggro you from a very far away if you're in the yellow/red. I would estimate about the distant equivelent to the entrance of Qufim and Port Jueno mog house.

Trust me when I say you'll be using Deo often when you are after Lich for Genkei1.

I've used deodorize a few times and this is how I believe it works, since it had worked this way everytime for me.

Say your party is fighting something they can't handle, so everyone runs off to go zone. The mob chases them to zone, and if you're still somewhere in the zone, the mob will come back for you no matter where you are. If you cast deodorize when the mob runs off chasing the other party members, it doesn't come back to you because it can't catch your scent. You still need sneak/invis/white hp if it aggros to other things and comes near you, but it won't actively pursue you after the rest of your team has zoned.

Most recently I did this with exorays in cralwers nest. My entire party died except for two whm (one being me) and a thf. I was just raised and the other whm was low on mp (as was I since I was weakened). The thf ran off and an exoray followed out for 30 seconds or a minute before killing him. During that time, I casted sneak and deodorize and began to heal. The exoray came back after a few seconds, linked with another exoray, and both proceded to attack the other whm. The other whm ran off and died a ways away from where I was. The exorays never came back for me, and I am positive this is due to me casting deodorize.

I've witnessed what you guys are talking about "monster smelling your blood" last night while hunting wadi hares for chocobo quest.

i got ambushed by of course the goblin ambusher and was taken down to about 20 health points and no mana points.

so i went to heal back in the corner and a goblin butcher came all the way from like mid map with his sword drawn to kill me... he knew where i was and was coming after me from far off so i know thats what it was because i looked around in my area and no monsters was around.

i couldnt cast deodorize on me cuz i didnt have enough mana but this is one example where it could of been very useful to cover up my scent.
