  • What food to eat as WHM?

While soloing in the lower levels as WHM, I used baked potatoes, rice balls, and meat mithkabobs as food very successfully, increasing my HP or STR. But I haven't used any food while leveling up to 20 in the Valkurm dunes, because I just didn't know which food would be useful in a group situation.

Increasing my STR in a group is obviously unnecessary.
Increasing my HP should be unnecessary as well, as long as the warriors in the group know how to provoke.
Increasing my MP is probably not necessary, as Taru I got enough to start with, and the main problem is regenerating MP, not having a high maximum.

I could increase my MND, but I'm using Cure I most of the time, and its already maxed at 30 HP long ago. Would it be worth increasing MND so I could use Cure II more often?

I could increase my mana regeneration rate, drinking juice. But the problem with that is, that juices don't stack, so 12 juices take 12 inventory slots instead of 1.

What food would you use as WHM in a group situation?

i personally use apple pie because it gives me +25 mp and some mind and int (but i cant be sure without logging and eating one)
they also stack and are quite cheap (around 1.3k per stack i think) juices are the main thing for mp regen i think (yag drink being highest and restoring 120mp over a 3 min period=2mp every 3 secs) and honey will regen 1mp per tick, also stackable

    hope this helps

<btw no whm can have too much mp even you little taru's>

Pumpkin Pie is +40 mp and lasts for 30 minutes, if I remember correctly.

More often than not, I find that food is only really needed to help make an average party, above average. In other words, if your PT is struggling, food is a good way to boost performance.

I'm not so sure it's really necessary all the time because I've been in PTs that were able to maintain chain 4s and 5s, w/o using any food.

For WHM, a great food overall is roasted mushrooms. +2 MND, +2 MP/tick while resting, +10 max MP, and -1 STR (I think it's STR... but it doesn't matter) for 30 minutes. Pies are OK too if you just want more MP, but keep in mind that if you've got a good XP chain going you won't often be resting to full MP. (Pies are best for BLM because of the INT boost.) Bubble chocolate or honey both add +1 MP/tick regen while resting, so they are good choices as well if your party is giving you lots of resting time and your MP max is already good.

Also remember that juices stack with foods. Technically juices don't give a "food" effect, they give you a direct "Refresh" effect. In my leveling parties I'll eat a mushroom and then if things get tough use a pineapple juice or, in more serious emergencies, a melon juice. If you use juice, don't use it too late.

I HATE being the only person in my party who uses food. I'm spending gil trying to keep my performance as high as possible... you should too. Food can be your best friend. Try to convince your other party members to use it, and you'll definitely notice a difference. Meat mithkabobs for attackers, maybe tortilla or boiled crab for PLD, etc.

One note, aside from Yagudo Drinks, by the time you get to higher levels, carrying large supplies of (unstackable) juices becomes less needed as you'd ideally be partying with a Red Mage with refresh or a bard with Mage Ballad (II). If I know I'll be XPing for awhile, I tend to take a full stack of applie or melon pies, whichever I can readily get at the moment at a good price from the bazaars (1500ish a stack for applie, 2400ish a stack for melon).

Roasted mushrooms are preferrable but tend to cost a bit much for just normal XP parties (8Kish a stack for mushrooms). I tend to only have roasted mushrooms these days after I've farmed the ingredients myself and have a friend cook them up for me. (2 mushrooms of any matching type, 1 fire crystal, 1 rock salt).

Once you are past the low level stage I agree with calianeri that a whm should be using roasted mushroom to give a bonus to mp recovery while healing in addition to +mnd and +mp.

Also a note about juices. They will not stack at all with the rdm spell refresh so they are generally something to be used at lower levels or to take along when you pt does not have a rdm. They will stack with bard's ballad.

I have to agree with zarrik, I use food+juice to make a passable party a better one. I synth juice while im hunting which allows me to carry alot more and also hand one to another mage in the PT if they need to catch up on mp or we have a tough fight.

                  PIE!

Apple Pie for early lvls and for those who dont have much gil to spend. Pumpkin pie is great too.

Drinks are VERY useful. The best drink to use that have a relativly low cost are Pineapple juice. 1mp/3sec for 240 seconds.

It lasts the longest than any other drink, although it's only 1mp every 3 sec. Some drinks like Melon Juice are 2mp/3sec but cost more of course.

Food is somewhat something to think of on the side. Mainly if you dont have the spells you need, dont bother with food and save for the spells. You will always need the spells.

Mulsum is also a good thing to use but cost around 400gil each I think, basically it attains +10 MP every turn when you sit and heal for MP.

The mushrooms are always a good idea.

Now that I am Drk though, I spend quite a bit on Meat Mithkabobs. sell for around 220-240gil each in stacks of 12 :spin: .
                  Although the +12 Accuracy food does seem appealing... just dont want to pay 5000gil each for them ; ;

this is good information, if i could actually afford to get all my scrolls, I would invest in some food, maybe I will in the future though.

Wow, roasted mushrooms are "only" 300-400g apiece (3.6-4.8k per stack) on Phoenix. I just bought a stack for 280 apiece from someone's bazaar a couple days ago. That makes them about equal price-wise to pumpkin pies.
