Cyclonus... they were questing not lvling

I don't think WAR/WHM is good at ANY lvl... even as taru. if you have 2 Pysical earrings to get to elvaan hp, why not just sub MNK for more HP and VIT and use +VIT rings. If you have a good healer, Taru WARs can tank in the dunes no problem

I miss the days of lvl 13-30 WAR/MNK were if you boosted and voked constantly you had hate no matter what. Didn't even take any effort if you had a greataxe.

I also don't like the "I'm training for PLD" Idea ether. If you wanted to train for PLD wouldn't you want to experience what its like to actually have hate? not what its like to use 2 cures and chase the monster around for the rest of the battle :spin:

You mean the +20 hp you get out of sub mnk as Taru, or perhaps that +2-3 more vit? Vit is not the main focus for a tank until lvl 50, before that you do DEF. I also know you use the word 'if', but really, good healers are hard to find at dunes.

Some might even say "why not just use the mp to heal instead of converting that to HP". Simply because you wont get cure 2 until 22 as /whm, and then you are way better off with another sub even if you have Physicals. Say you use the 50 mp to cast Cure, thats about 5 cast x 30 = 150 hp healed, but then you have to somehow get that MP back. So either there goes your TP or juices extravaganza.

I don't think VIT is any less important early on at all.

I think its just that DEF is so much easeir to get later on that w/out the VIT its kind of overkill (if you subscribe to the VIT max dmg taken, DEF average...like I do...along with most players :p ) with Defender, food being percentage based, DEF bonuses, higher protects, and just higher DEF all around. Vit on the other hand isn't so easily raised by so many abilities, spells, etc... so I think thats more the reson that later on DEF takes a back seat to VIT.... but I'm getting off topic

I think what I was getting at is you are far better serving the PT with having more hate-contoling abilites as a tank than having 35~ more HP over /MNK. I agree that healing is sometimes scarce in the dunes, but I don't think in the long run that having a hand-full of fairly weak cures makes up for not having a dedicated healer and solid hate control.

EDIT: on top of the stated ideas, what if your not tanking? Filling in the DMG dealer role is a big part of being WAR. Having the added DEX and STR of /MNK is always nice

Errr....I think you either forgot what I said on my posts or went too far ahead. I said /whm is a very viable alternative for a Taru WAR with Physicals up to level 19-22. Seriously, a lvl 10 sub or less doesnt change your stats in a radical way.

Read my post, I clearly said past 22 you are better off with another subjob.

the dunes only takes a couple of hrs to get through... you could be SMN/MNK and still manage to lvl there. sure /whm is an alternative... but its not a very good one.

war/whm's believe theyre getting practice at being a pld, theyre wrong, and although I dont think they should be punished like some other people in this post think they should, I do think they are noobs and will not invite one, it can't raise your healing magic skill lvl, war have bad mnd and it destroys the point of you being a tank when you have a subjob with the second crappiest def in the game

I'll give you my personal experience as a war/whm...

It creates added dowtime... as you have to rest. Think of the lack of SCs.

And not to mention the power of provoke is somewhat reduced... I can remember the times I've voked, and the mob would not turn to me. WAR/WHM is highly inefficiant. To invite one, I hope its only cause you need a second voker.

Maybe alot of those war/whm didnt understand how to keep hate through healing at key times, Ive never had problems tanking as a war/whm in dunes, infact I died ALOT less as war/whm then as war/mnk in dunes. Dont go bashing job combinations if you dont know how to play them. In no way am I saying war/whm is a tank after like 25 maybe 35 if your good, but its dunes/quifim/khazam, it isnt that serious, you can make alot of combos work.
