  • Pulling as a WAR

Ok, as a WAR, if I'm pulling I usually use provoke. It works fine most of the time. The only times I notice it gets tricky is when I need to pull a mob that is near a mob that aggroes, like a gob.

For example, even if I'm far enough away for the gob not to see me, if I provoke a mob thats close to it, the gob will always aggro me.

My question is, does pulling with a spell or a ranged weapon prevent surrounding aggressive mobs from also aggroing the puller? If so ill stop using provoke and buy a boomerang or something.

Im lvl. 15 and haven't been pulling long, but the Boomerang seems to work perfect so far. Nuthin in Valkurm has aggro'd near by unless I run by the Gobs field of vision.

I don't think most people like to pull with provoke.

Ya, I hate using provoke, it's range is too short. I've been using a bow until it got to expensive to buy the arrows, so I'm saving for a boomerang.

Provoke is good for contested pulls, or if timing is really crucial. (Splitting a camp of goblins.) Otherwise, it sucks. It's range is short, so you normally get beat on for the way back, and if you're in a damage mode (berserk, damage class, whatever) it gets you a significant amount of hate you don't want.

Edit: Realized I didn't answer your question :p Mobs in valkurm are all sight aggro, so they will only jump you if they a) see you, or b) see you pulling their pals.
I would get a boomerang if you don't like bows, quick and cheap. (personally, I like tearing stuff up with high damage arrows when I pull them though)

Do not waste your provoke on pulling, it's a waste of provoke the main goal of pulling is to bring the mob to the camp. Get a boomerang and don't start pulling right away. You should kill some low level mobs and work your way up till you see it's right.

I get mad when another war or someone who is subbing /war pulls with voke when I'm tanking, its harder to get the mob off them especially since they start auto attacking the mob once they get back to camp ><

using provoke is a risk since its so close to the mobs, i prefer to use darts...plus you get to raise your throwing skills !
              Onto mission 2-3!

If I'm main tank I'll pull with provoke, depending on the area. That extra jump-start on aggro is nice, and I can just eat a hit or two with Utsusemi.

                YMMV, of course

From level 50 to level 62 I was in a set PT that did not have a thf or rng, the classes generally turned to when it comes time to pulling, so I accepted pull duty.

At the higher levels you start to encounter mobs that move much faster than you do and hit HARD. I pulled with a Lightning Bow (once i was high enough to equip it) and cheapy arrows, so as to put the maximum amount of distance between me and my target as possible, the shorter the distance i had to run with a Peryton bashing on me, the better. Even with Third Eye and long range pulls, I was always run down by the mob and hit 3-4 times for a good chunk of damage before i returned to the camp and the PLD grabbed the aggro. I firmly believe that if I had been voke-pulling, I would have died...alot, since not only would i be getting hit the entire run back, as opposed to about half of it =p

So yea, invest in a ranged weapon for pulling and get used to using it.
