  • Im Diggin' WAR!

When I first got the game, my mind flip flopped liked 40 times in what I wanted to be. I was thinking Dark Knight, then Dragoon, then Samurai, etc. I did know for sure that I would be a WAR just to lvl. 30 like everyone else does.

So, I decided on being a Dragoon and started using Polearms already (which I was told not to since i'd level that up quick anyway once I got the DRG job).

So I switched to a Great Axe...and im really enjoying it. Then I saw all the cool weapons WARs could use throughout the game and being able to switch different weapons and be useful just seems too cool to me. So, my question is this. I was to level up my skills in Great Axes, Axes, Great Swords and maybe Polearm and take WAR to a high level. What would be the best sub? not just for tanking, mainly as a back up tank who could deal good damage?

    ah, another convert. mahvelous.

well, dispite being a tank combo, i still feel war/mnk will do you good. when you hit war 30 you could sub thf for the SA if you want. then at 60 you can go war/sam.

I personally go /NIN when leveling WAR. I just think it's so bad ass dual wielding axes.

It really depends on what weapon though. With Gaxe and other 2h weapons, /MNK is the best 10-29 for Boost (which doesn't do much, but it's the only thing that any job offers before then), 30-49 /THF with Sneak Attack is probably superior, 50-59 /MNK gets Focus though I'm not sure how much ACC it adds (but with switching between Aggressor and Focus, it allows you to get +ATK gear instead of +ACC allowing your damage output to be even better), and at 60 /THF would get Trick Attack allowing you to do fuidama.

And if you're using one hand weapons, /NIN become a contendar at 20 and 50 with dual wield bonuses. There's also lv48ish axeswhich add +10 Acc. Not good when tanking due to the -10 Evasion, but when if you dual wield them in a damage dealer position, I'd hope you'd never miss with Aggressor on (there's also life belt to add +10 more acc on you're +20 ACC).

Lots of possibilites for WAR. I've been leveling G. Axe and I wanna get a G. Sword next, but the prices are insane =( I guess everyone likes big ass swords. Think i'll skill up my 1H Axes next, Dual Wielding 2 Axes is gonna rock in the future.

Ill be taking my Warrior high level too, I havent been leveling recently, so hes been at lvl 30 for like 2 months :D

Right now, Im using Monk for my sub, Im also training up Thief(15) and Ninja(13) to use as subs, so I can switch to whatever is needed for the PT.

I have every weapon leveled up besides the Staff and Club, but I only use Axe/Shield and Great Axe... Mostly Great Axe, I just love the DMG, and it helps hold the hate if Im main, I got a high Parry skill too so missing out on a shield doesnt hurt much, especially when Im using Defender/Dodge.

At this lvl, not really. parry, shield, guard are those skills that are hard to build up.

There was a trick posted somewhere (pld forums maybe) that you can go attack a ranged and melee beastman. Stand away from the ranged beastman and keep him targeted so that combat is still going on, but you can't hit him. What will happen then is the melee beastman will close in on you and start hammering away. So basically, by being a punching bag, you will eventually raise your parry, shield or guard skills.

You can see how this might be disasterous at lvl 11.

              Thanks Yyg!

I just got my Parry high from training all the different weapons, and I usually play the main tank and puller, I never sat in one spot and let a monster hit me or any tricks like that, too boring and slow for me :D

Weapon: Great Axe is all u need from lvl 1-66. Axe is piece of shit from lvl 1-54 untill you get rampage. At 66 ppl use Axe for light renkei. Sword, you dont need it, Spear, only if you are PT with thf. Trying to lvl up 4 weapons is a nightmare, you cant get all weapon max, i tired it before. All you need is to get Great Axe and Axe max.

Subjob: 1-59 monk. 60-65 sam. 66-73 sam or ninja. 74-75 ninja = God.

Hmm I'm in a similiar position. I had levelled WAR to 30 as fast as I could to get the Dragoon job. Ended up not liking that one bit, decided I wanted to tank, and went NIN. Got NIN to 33, and got tired of the horrid situation that is pre-37 NIN tanking, so I decided last weekend to spend my CP on a Centurion's set and level WAR again.

Got to 35, and I'm having a ton of fun with the job. The flexibility is nice. Before 30 it's like the people levelling WAR were just interested in going for one of the advanced melees, they didn't really care about the job. Now there's a ton of them looking for group, and my only real competition is Paladin and maybe Ninja.

I sub NIN. It does seem like MNK would be a better sub with GAXE so I'm levelling that now too. But so far I'd say dual axes have been outdamaging my great axe. Misses are costly with such a slow weapon

Going to be hard to go back to NIN with as fun as this job seems to be

My first char was Warrior. I took it to 15 and the XP started slowing down a great deal and I solo'd a lot, due to not having a lot of time to play in one sitting (read: not enough time to find groups).

So I changed to Monk, was easily able to solo to 30 where I could get my Dark Knight job quest completed. I played Dark to 30 and, again, found myself upset at the fact that I couldn't even solo easy cons due to low Drk defense.

So, I did the Pal job and really liked it at first, even made it to 36 before I decided I didn't like it. I could solo very well with very little downtime, but it wasn't my style, I like to do damage.

So I got the rest of the subjobs and thoght about it, then decided to go with Warrior/Ninja (I don't think I ever saw one at that point nor read about anyone attempting this in any of the numerous newbie LS I was in at the time).

I decided on War as main, because at 25, I could take advantage of both Dual Wield and Double Attack, instead of waiting until level 50 Ninja.

I never looked back, it's a lot of fun and I do nice damage and can tank on demand. At 50 now I will have 15% innate haste *drool* on top of my already awesome damage.

My advise, try different jobs, play what fits your play style.

Weapon wise, i choose to have 4 weapons. My main weapons are axe and great axe, currently at 49 i got 150 in axe and 146 in great axe.

My secondary weapon are lower but i'll try to cap them helping peeps with genkai1, polearm and sword are between 115 and 120. Reasons for sword i want spirti within ws for it's insane dmg vs at 300% tp and circle blade ws for farming purpose. Polearm is good when you need to sc a distorsion with a thf, otherwise i'll get mine to 150 for penta thrust, again for farming purpose.

In those case i define farming as killing low levels mobs for cash or killing plenty of stuff to help friends with lower level missions.

Also when war/nin i often dual wield axe/sword combo since sword offer better stat bonuses than axes. Right now i'm using CC scimitar with a viking axe and upgrading my sword at 50 for a tactician magician espadon for the +12 att on it.

i like war/mnk its good in all the stats that warriors need. it gives you dex boosts ans attack boosts bad thing is that your defence will drop a lil bit.weapon wise i use greatsword, great ax, spear and sythe.

How would your Defense drop using a Monk sub?
They have the 2nd highest Vit in the game I beleive.
