  • War/Whm??...your opinion

Okay right now im a 22War/11Whm and im in Qufim leveling. I was origanally a War/Mnk and in Qufim i couldn't get a group at all, because there was tons of War/Mnk and most partys wanted a adv job or people didn't want 2-3 war in a group. So i switched to War/Whm and i have got more invites to partys than i ever did as a War/Mnk.

People invite me to their group to help with healing and do some secondary tanking. I use +mp items so i can use spells more.

I like War/Whm so far and i was wondering if anyone has a opinions on this mainjob/subjob combo.:spin:

If it gets you more invites, well, I'm not really one to argue with it; in the pre-level-30 melee glut, anything that gets you picked over every other generic guy who hits stuff is worthwhile.

However, I wouldn't expect this to work well (or at all) after level 30 or so. Even once you get to Kazham, people are more discerning when it comes to subjobs and job combos. That said, feel free to offer /WHM in your search comment; if someone is putting together a weird party and happens to need that sort of thing, and you feel comfortable trying such a thing out to the possible detriment of your XP totals, nobody is really going to stop you. I do, however, recommend that you have a fully leveled (and equipped) 'traditional' sub, like MNK. Dodge and Focus are very nice (though I haven't been able to use Focus yet as a WAR), that extra HP has been all that's left between me and a messy death more than once, and Boost provides a nice, extra little kick when incorporated into a WS macro.

As much as I personally dislike seeing WARs sub WHM, I'm glad to hear that you're willing to go the distance and actually support it with gear. I'm just not sure if that's the best use of the resources you have availible to you as a warrior.

Back in late 2003, shortly after the NA PC launch, I recall WAR/WHM being popular too.

The reasoning is that "newbie" parties tend to get desperate after being unable to find a WHM or RDM, and thus often choose to settle for melee/WHM jobs thinking "hey, it's better than nothing".

I remember Paladins being called on to play main healer sometimes too in Dunes and Quifim.

The main issue right now is the glut of warriors vs the lack of white mages at low levels (though one could argue the lack of mages is ever-present regardless of any level). Once the warrior overpopulation dwindles in a few months, I'd bet WAR/MNK will be preferred over WAR/WHM again.

I went this route after the original release too. For a hume, it's not that bad of a SJ until 30, but I definetly wouldn't take it past that. The main thing the SJ are good for is panic healing yoursel or others, hate on command, and it can cut some respectable downtime if you only have a 1 healer group (although you absolutely cannot main heal for the group). You can also use protect and bar effect spells, but most of the other magic is near worthless.

That being said, I would go paladin if you're looking at taking this setup past 30 (at least in groups. It probably works OK for soloing little stuff.) Thats when your subjob traits start "really" working well for most jobs and odd choices become obvious pretty quickly.

          i hate that combo

in my playing time a whm subed was not invited to a group unless it was a mage that had it subed, or if he/she was the leader. whm have very little to at to the str of your chr like mnk would. and thats all i see the noobs useing now. when i first started unless your sub was up to par with your main. and was a good combo you where not invited to a party.
and i am sure that after you hit 25 and are ready to go to kazham that it will be even harder to get a group unless a party really needs a tank or an extra voker. my war is just lvl 16 but i took mnk to main never subed whm or any mage with it. now i am going war/mnk till i hit 20 then i am goin to sub my ninja so i can use my ninja spells and duel wield.
this is just my opion though

Life of a dragoon is a long hard road to travel but the goal is well worth the walk.
congrats! You have been muged by a Thief. You have lost 1,000,000 gil.

Seems to me having a whm sub for war would mean you are running around with a weakened warrior(due to lack of a good war sub) and half a whm. Good for soloing, but I wouldn't invite you in my party over another war.

Heh, it's not as bad as you guys are making it out to be for a hume. They have about twice the MP as elvaan with it as a SJ. Which granted, still is bad, but enough to be useful.

Just keep your SJ fulled leveled and you'll do fine on the invites, particularly if you keep your gear up to date. (Which half the newbs don't) Do what you need to in order to get out of 30, but be prepared to switch to a real SJ after that.

almost anything works pre30, if u like the whole tanking w/ whitemagic go pallywhen u hit 30, u'll have a head start in your magic skills, used to be healing yourself while tanking, and have your warrior lvl 30 for subbing to pally until 60
