  • An Armor Situation

Hello there, I'm kind of in a rutt here about my armor since I've approached my lvl 20's, more specifically lvl 21.

My current build consists of, Bone Mask, Bone Harness, Lizard Trousers, Course Gaunlets, and Course Leggings. Accesories include 2 Bone Earrings, 2 Sardonyx Rings, 1 Dhamel Mantle, 1 Spike necklace, 1 Friars Belt, and a Fish Scale Sheild. I have 3 weapons, a Legionnaire Scyth, a Battle Axe, and a Crossbow with bronze bolts.

However right now i'm only concerned about my main Armor pieces.

Now that I'm lvl 21, I see that Beetle Armor is available to me. However at the same time, there are only 3 lvls more till I'm qualified to use Chain Mail Armor. Then again that armor is unbelievably expensive, and quite frankly I'm not exactly a rich Elvaan. Then at lvl 27 we have the Brass Scale armor which has the same amount of defence, for a much more affordable price especially for me, however thats all the ways till lvl 27.

In all seriousness... I really don't want to buy the Chainmail set... It is really pricey, and money on my part comes in slow despite my farming efforts. However [B]if I need to[\B] I will purchase the Chainmail.

So then it leads to these questions

How important is having a set of Chainmail?

Is it ethically required for groups, therefore frowned upon not to have Chainmail?

Is it acceptable to use lvl 21 Beetle Armor until lvl 27 so that I can buy Brass Scale?

Would you accept me into your group givin my situation, and current Accesories and Weapons?

Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

You should keep your current eq til you hit lvl 24. At 24 you should get the chainmail, its pretty much expected since you are a WAR, and it doesnt take that long to farm for. It will give you more defense and it looks a hell of a lot better than the ugly brass scale armor. And yes it is a bit pricey, but you can just sell it back when ur done with it, so its not a big deal. The chainmail armor will last you to lvl 30. You should always try to have the best eq within reason for your lvl, meaning no crazy shit like leaping boots and emporer hairpin. You owe it to your group to have it, becasue if you walk in wearing lizard gear at lvl 24, you are going to take more damage, casuing the WHM to heal you more, wich is going to slow down the party. So just take some time off and farm, you are going to have to do it sooner or later b/c shit gets really expensive.

If you get chainmail you can use that armor until lvl 30 but if you want to wait you can wait for a lvl 27 armor than switch in lvl 30 for Centuiron armor.

        GalacticPhantom,

If you're low on cash chainmail is a waste of money. I was recently leveling my sub job (now a 31 SAM) and went right from Beetle armor (21) to Brass armor (27) to Centuiron armor (30). I'm not short on cash by an means but levels 24-27 go very quickly so you're better off saving that money for a better weapon / rings / etc.

The difference between a full set of Beetle armor and a full set of Chainmail armor is only 12 defense. Yes it's nice to have the best armor at your level, yes you will look better, no it's not at all required by a PT to get invites.

If you have extra time to farm and get money so you can afford Chainmail, great! But if not you're better off waiting for Brass (27) and putting that money towards other equipment areas.

You'll be fine not having Chainmail. I didn't have it and I never had a problem getting a group.

You will still do allright in groups even if you don't have chain mail but if you don't get chain at 24 upgrade to beetle armor at 21 cause bone/lizard won't cut it at this level.

Upgrade to brass scale at 27 if you don't have chain. You can also skip the gloves/boots of chain and still use beetles ones since those cost 2-3k more per part and only give +1 more def than beetle.

Your other gear like accessories are ok, but i would get a boomerang for ranged weapon since it doesn't require ammunition, unless you're planning of going ranger.

Your legionnaire needs to be upgraded somehow (if it's possible) or just use only your axe

Thank all for your help so far...

Hmm... Right now It would seem that I'm leaning on the idea of Beetle armor to Scale armor up to 30, from there I'll do the Dark Knight Quest and therefore I'll be changing my Job to Dark Knight. I usually keep all the items that I know that I'll be using again, like armor so even if I did buy the Chainmail, I wouldn't sell it off until I was completely done with it as a DRK.

As for a boomerang... I considered it, however I noticed that DRK can use them so I'm sticking with the Crossbow. Usually I can get bolts from some friends of mine for 1/3 of the cost of the AH, so money in that area shouldn't be a problem.

As for my Legionaire Scythe, I'm thinking of finding a high lvl crafter that could maybe craft a Republic Scythe out of it, but maybe thats to risky?

Anywho thanks so far with all the helpful information, please keep it comming.

                      >.>

A bit part of this game is how you spend your time. Properly leveling up subs and spending actual time to farm for equipment is a big must! However, at lower levels (read: before 30) you should be able to get away with skipping the latest and greatest armors. Personally I farmed for chain; when I started there wasn't any american pld's and I was seen as the main tank always.

My only real suggestion is to change your rings. As an elvaan you need as much DEX (and accuracy!) as you can get.

I'll probably keep my current rings for now since I'm not missing much at all as I am now since I am a lower level, until the next set of rings in which I'll get ones that will provide +2 DEX.

Sorry to be a bitch but what does that have to do with Chainmail. Everyone has to bring up their plan like their someone special. Anyways i would farm, so you get more experience on where to go and you will have more cash on hand from selling chainmail. Also it looks sexier and crapzor.

Take the time off to farm for chain armor.

Wearing your crappy lizard/beetle is like a WHM without Cure II or bringing warrior sub.
