Is it required of a warrior to buy chainmail at level 24, or would it be alright if i stick with beatle armor. Also about great axes, the level 20 one costs 15k and the level 25 one costs 20k are these also expected of a warrior?btw im a level 18 WAR/MNK with full bone set and all the up to date polearms, great axes, and 1 hand swords

Beetle Subligar: 12 def
Beetle Leggings: 5 def
Beetle Mask: 9 def
TOTAL: 49 def
Chainmail: 21 def
Chain Mittens: 7 def
Chain Hose: 16 def
Greaves: 6 def
Iron Mask: 11 def
TOTAL: 61 def
I think the numbers speak for themselves.
And yes, you need at least one of those two greataxes. Neckchopper is more accurate, which usually makes it better, though Plantbane has slightly higher damage.
Believe me, you will appreciate the difference in defense, especially when 20s groups ask you to tank (because a PLD is not always available and, until 30, not necessarily better than you).Retired for good this time; been a fun ride everybody.

I'd say Beetle is the minimum.
I "prepared" for Lvl24 and got chainmail, but it seems very uncommon. Ppl are either too lazy, or lack the ingenuity to create a financial plan =/
I skipped Neckchopper to save for chain, and used the Lvl16 Moth Axe until Lvl25.
You're a tank, so get the best armor you can before looking at weapons. Leave damage to the damage dealing classes.WAR/MNK/THF

Required? No it isn't.Personal choice i would say.
It wasn't the gil for me,gil is easy to get by just leveling up my sub.think he made like 20k in 2 levels.
It was the price difference. At level 24,yes you can buy chain.Chain Tunic on my server goes for around 16-18 k,legs average 8-10k,mittens 4k,greaves 6k.... ok just 3 more levels and i can get brass(i think thats what it was called),it has the exact same def as chain. No it isnt as pretty but, tunic is 5-6k,legs are 2k etc...Thats a huge difference!
So i think spending a couple more levels in beetle wouldn't be detrimental to you being able to get in a group. But seriously getting gil is easy so thats why i went ahead and got chain.

Totally OT

I'm pretty sure they don't say 'genjutsushi' in India all that often. The word gen means 'illusion' or 'apparition.' In India, a man who uses conjury is called a genjutsushi ['a master of illusion technique']. Everything in this world is but a marionette show. Thus we use the word gen.
The word they do use is closer to 'juggler' anyway...

Not many people seem to know this, but you can BUY chain in a STORE. The armory in Bastok Mines (Mines, not Market, there are two of 'em) sells chain, even when Bastok is in last place in Conquest.
However, you'll usually save money buying the non-chest pieces at auction. On my server they go for a little less than retail, but the chest piece is VASTLY overpriced; it goes for 15-16k in-store, and 16k+ at auction. Don't get ripped off!
I would say you "need" the chest piece, mask (which goes for a paltry 2k on my server, c'mon), and leggings. The defense difference for the boots and gloves is, admittedly, not that hot. But there's a BIG difference on the major pieces, and while you may say "You're not a tank," you have to face facts: When and if there's no PLD (or blink-tanking NIN) around, you ARE the tank, and you ARE the best suited for the job. Therefore, even if you're not using a shield (and especially if you're not using one), you need all the def you can get in the event you DO have to tank.
Plus, chain looks swank when you have a full suit, but horribly mismatched when mixed. Don't be a fashion victim!Retired for good this time; been a fun ride everybody.

I would say that it depends on your job for one. For instance, if you are a Dark Knight, save the gil and buy weapons. You don't need chain mail. However, since this is the warriors forum, I will tell you that when I was a Warrior I skipped chain. Why? Because you can buy Brass Scale Mail at level 27 which, I believe, has very close if not equal defense the chain gives you. You know what else? A FULL set of brass scale mail is 20k cheaper than chain. Yes, you heard me correctly, 20k cheaper. I paid 10k for my set of brass. There is no way on this earth I will pay an extra 20k just too look sexier. Just my opinion on the matter.
By the way, i'm a proud level 25 DRK running around Qufim wearing my full set of Lizard Armor.

You can buy chain at lvl 24, then sell it back for the same price you got it for, when you hit lvl 27 and then go to brass.
So in the end you won't lose money for getting chainmail at 24, it just depends if you can/or want to afford it at the time.

Several things from the perspective of a non-tank (at least, when I'm not leveling my sub).
1) Warriors/Paladins who don't have *THE ABSOLUTE BEST* armor for their level make me want to cry. Although there will often be 2-3 warriors in pre-30 groups in Qufim (since everyone and their brother, mother, and kid sister wants to play an advanced melee job, and warriors are the default sub), if every one of them is wearing beetle (or worse, lizard) at level 24+, that just means you all suck, not that you suck less because no one else has chain.
2) In addition to number 1, many people will skip over ever grouping with you again if they see you in less-than-optimal gear. There may not be many warriors/plds over level 30, which limits options, but there sure as hell are a TON of warriors below 30, and the ones that wear the best gear are going to get to 30 a lot quicker. I once grouped with a paladin who, at level 28, was proudly sporting full bone armor (and was a galka besides, blech). I will never group with that gimp again.
Taking time out to level up another job (and make mad cash in the process) is never detrimental to the development of your character. Level up that thf sub you'll want someday for farming, level up rdm a bit to work on 1H sword/dagger (assuming you don't already have them capped) and get your magic skills up a bit to make it easier to do whm/blm if you think you might ever need it. You've already got evasion capped, and a subjob; leveling subs for the first 10-15 levels is actually very easy, and profitable.

well i decided to buy the chainmail and planbane at 25 and im glad i did, because right now in Kazham im a brick and always take less than 15 a hit from mandragoras. i was also planning on getting the centurion set once i reach 30, excluding the legs because chain have the same Def as Cent. cuisses.
