What's up with the poking? no dmg with mele what am I doing wrong...?

Got my Galka Warrior to level 18 now and I have 2 handed sword maxed. I'm not interested in playing as a tank, I want to play as mele dmg dealer, is that possible?

I have the best sword avalibale for my level (18) and I poke mobs for like 20 dmg and miss like crazy, why? Am I doing something wrong or is the warrior designed to do no dmg what so ever?
I was in a party with 3 wars 1 thief and 1 Whm the other day and we couldn't kill anything. 50 exp then rest since noone did any dmg...

However in another team with 1 war (me) 2 Blm 1 Rdm and 1 Whm we ecp chained mobs for 150+ exp, sure I up for not doing as much dmg as mages/ranged but this is just retarded...
Am I missing something here or should I just find another game if I want to wack things with big mele weapons?

I have grouped with a dragoon and a ninja and noted that they do more dmg but it was still very crappy and useless, one has to find groups with mages to get exp..

Is this trend going to contiue later on in the game? If the game is balanced so a mele dmg dealer isn't doing any dmg then I'm wasting my time..... Most of my time as a warrior I sit on my ass waiting for an invite since noone seems to want a warrior and if I search for members to start my own party I usually find 10+ warriors ocationally a thief or monk but no mages...

Samurai seems fun to play, will I be in the same spot with one of thoose?

any tips about how to do decent dmg would be highly apriciated just don't just tell me to make a mage/ranger........

havn't pted with a DRK or RNG? don't worry you will, then you'll notice how friggen powahful they are gonna be at later lvls. The THF in your pt also could do some sick damage with Sneak Attack...

early on BLM are a main damage source, DRKs and RNG and such can do a hell a lot but nothing compaired to a BLM in the lower lvls. But as these classes develop in the higher lvls, they'll crush the damage a BLM does completely.

DRK will do around 90-150 a hit with weapon skills that do over 1000

RNG will hit for around 100-200 and weapon skills that can go over 2000 but usually stay around 1500

BLM, have ancient magic, which takes pretty much all their MP for 900-1200 damage. Their lvl 3 spells do 300-400

THF are sick little dudes, yokadomas for around 1200-1500

so to stay efficiant, a BLM must use their lvl 3 spells in order to catch up to the other melee

2 handed swords arent really really strong for warrior (B skill) i'd highly recommend 2 handed axes which can do more damage. Sheild Break weapon skill will also decrease the enemy's evasion rate which makes you miss less.

If you don't wanna be a tank the warrior really shouldn't be your job of choice since everyone is going to need you to tank whether you want to or not... And as for missing the attacks, (as I have said in another thread) Warriors are just watered down paladins that are supposed to take the damage and do some basic attacking... You may miss a lot but it is normal... The damage dealers are the ones who are supposed to be worrying about if they are missing hits etc.

May I recommend Monk? I have heard Galka monks are pretty good and can even take hits sometimes (when the enemy shifts their attention to them) Not to mention you get counter, hp boost, chakra to heal yourself, and your hits increase in damage and you sometimes don't even have to upgrade weapons... But thats just my opinion... Play however you want...

Were you under any status effects, such as "STR Down"?
Was the creature debuffed?

Makes for a huge difference in melee dps.

I've seen melee damage go from 30+ to 0, after a creature used a special ability.
At lvl18ish, I'd guess you're fighting snippers (and in a few more lvls clippers in Qufim). You're going to get frustrated fighting these, guaranteed. Incredibly high defense (think of it as melee damage absorption). It's like trying to crack open a nutshell with a butter knife... not going to happen.

And those BLMs can do some pretty impressive damage, sure, but they also :
- can cast a 60mana nuke and sometimes hit for 5 dmg
- die in 2 swats
- sacrifice armor and hps in order to do the damage they can do. That's their tradeoff.

Warriors *can* do a fair amount of damage, and once you find a creature weak to melee, and go Berserk (coupled with Double Attack, if it fires off) you can do ALOT of damage.

Sure, you're not the most damaging class ingame (for that, go RNG or DRK), but it's not too pathetic either.
Just gotta stick it out.

The warrior job is a balanced melee class with both attack and defense. As such its attack is not the highest melee-wise, and neither is its defense. It's like the redmage of melee.

Btw, drg dmg does get better once they get their flashy penta thrusts and all. Ninjas are an alternative tank, not exactly damage dealer....

haha yah, damn metalic body... sends defence through the roof.

Snippers are a pain for melee classes, but if you have a rdm or blm debuffing it helps a LOT :D

If you want to lean more on offense and still be a warrior, switch to great axe instead of great sword.

Wars get A or A+ ranking with axe/great axe.

They get I ' think' a B with the sword and 2H swords.

This should make a noticable change in attack and hit rate.

Thievies are good damage dealers but they really suck until level 15 when they get backstab. I know first hand because I'm a thf(I also play wm and war btw).

Also, I don't know what job class you would like to go to for main one day but if you decided on an advanced melee class, start using that weapon now every once in a while.
