  • is it just me or does Great Axe get me invites?

In beta I lived by my Greatsword, being I was going for DRK and it was free (Windurster, Mrc Sword) and I had a VERY hard time getting pts. I'd always seek for hours and hours.

Now, in retail I use a Great Axe all the time. My pt invites are insanely high, usually within 5-10 minutes of logging on or leaving a pt. I notice other Warriors using other weapons sitting around for hours waiting for a pt...

is this a coincedence or does Great Axe really get you pt invites?

In my experience, it really just depends on what the PT needs at the time. I've had no problem getting PTs with my WAR, both as axe/shield and great axe. It really comes down to the skill chains/reinki, seeing how all weapons basically balance out in their own way.

yes the reason why a PT needs a warrior is because of great axe. Sheild Break Weapon skill can lower an enemy's evasion. This is VERY important to have. After lv60, pretty much any party will invite a warrior because the only 2 classes that can lower a monster's evasion rate are warrior and bard. Level great axe all the way to 60 you will understand why it's extremely important.

due to my low level, i just get invited based only my WAR's level compared to the rest of the party. =/

most of the Warriors i party with still use swords.

Maybe its just me but I really dislike teaming with warriors who use GreatAxe. They just seem to not create enough damage because they miss too much and they are too slow. I prefer teaming with 1 handed Axe warrior for their damage or with Sword weilding one because of their WS. I hear that Shield Break is nice but whats the point if they can't build TP fast enough because they miss too much and they are too slow?

If that's the case, chances are the warrior did not have his 2h axe skill trained. 2h axe is not going to miss any more than any other weapon on equal footing. In fact, it should miss less for a warrior, because it is a warrior's A+ weapon.

People who say that "greataxe misses too much" have no idea about hit ratios.

Question: If you and I have even attack and accuracy ratings, you use a 1h sword, and I use a greataxe, who will miss more?

Answer: You. You will miss twice as often as I will. Why? I swing at half the speed. Is this not common sense? We also do the same amount of damage (actually greataxe comes out a bit ahead, i'll go into why a bit lower). Why? Your weapon has half the damage rating BUT also has half the delay rating. 2 of your hits = 1 of my hits. More common sense.

Greataxe does outdamage 1h weapons by a bit. Our crits put us a ahead slightly.

Example: (these numbers are by no means accurate, just showing an example)

                  1h sword:15 15 miss 30(crit) 15 miss. Total: 75 in 6 swings.
                  Greataxe: 30 miss 60(crit) Total: 90 in 3 swings.

1h sword will miss 2x as much as greataxe, but they are the same ratio, 1:3 in this case. Greataxe does more damage due to crits, but this is made up by the 1h sword by its ability to use a shield, extra defense.

I would also like to add,
Those whom are planning on being paladins after gaining 30 levels with warrior, its best for them to use 1 handed swords all the way to 30. You wouldnt need to worry about skilling up 1 handed sword until you reach 30 with your paladin. Baradak is absolutely correct regarding damage and delay. DO NOT let the slow delay of 2 handed axes fool you. It really makes a difference (with a 2 handed axe capped) and later on at level 60, PT's will love you for Sheild Break AND also Dark Knights would be looking forward to renkei/skill chain with you. Raging Rush is a multi hit Weapon skill learnt at lv60 which is extremely powerful. It connects with Scythe's Guillotine weapon skill and the damage of that skill chain is EXTREMELY SICK. I recall 1300+ damage done on a monster plus the black mage's MB and the DRK had THF subbed. But in most cases i have experienced from lv60+ parties, i usually solo sheild break and be excluded from renkei/skill chain since its more important for the other melees to renkei amongst each other whilst i keep lowering the monster's evasion for more sucessful hits to go through. Especially when they use multi hit weapon skills.

                      Xero...my hero

                      Its me eowynn

I currently have my SAM to 17 and WAR is still 31. At first I wanted SAM as main but after seeing that you can get majority of SAM strengths by subbing it I have decided to stick with WAR main.

My question....what weapons do you recommend I train. I took your advice in game and currently have 2H Axe and 1H sword. I imagine 1H axe as well. What about polearm? Can u get penta-thrust as WAR...will it hit often?

Anyway thanks for all your help so far in game...

                      btw I am cold

                        Hey Eowynn,

Training 1 handed axes is also a good idea (not as beneficial as 2 handed but sometimes they may ask if you had a 1 handed axe with you for renkei/skill chain.) 1 handed axe's best weapon skill can be gained when your warrior hits 55. The weapon skill is called Rampage which is a multi hit weapon skill. It renkei's very nicely with dagger and katanas and yes does alot of damage. As for penta, spears are not really strong for warriors, u get to learn penta at around lv53 i think. The weapon skill in my opinion isnt that powerful compared to Raging Rush or Rampage. 1 Handed axe lv225 WS (war needs to be 66 to learn it) can start a lv3 renkei/skill chain so yeah its a great weapon to level up. Although, you need to always make sure you cap your 2 handed axe all the time since you are required later on to solo sheild break. Ahh yes... lv225 2 handed axe weapon skill (war of lv65 can learn it) is called Full Break. It consists of all breaks in one weapon skill (shield, armor and weapon)

for future in pally, i recomend going to 10 with a 1h sword, then switching to 2h axe after 10, maybe 12 for the greataxe. then solo a bit in easier territory with great axe, and build up some skill. party and you great axe will level hella quick. then, when you get your pally, u can equipt 1h sword and your set on maxing it for a while. wepon skill is easy to max out by end of level after lvl 10...otherwise, its hard because of how rapidly you level.
