  • Light Fast Swordswoman

Not sure that this is the right place to post it, but can't see what looks to be a "right" place for this.

I don't have the game yet, it has been pre-ordered.

What I would like to try is a light fast swordswoman. Probably Mythra for the dex. Dual swords if possible. A character that can dish out the damage and do a fair job of taking it. With some ability to solo when I can't get groups.

Is it possible? How would I go about building it?

    Main?
    Sub?

Monk then switch to samurai maybe? Or go Monk, then warrior for taunting and finally choosing samurai as a main? Is that possible?

And how long should I do the first class before switching?

Sorry if I seem clueless. Just trying to work up ideas.

Well, if you want dual swords, you'll need to have the Ninja job as either your main or sub, because you get the Dual Wield passive ability at level 10.
You don't know me, so don't judge me.

I found some more info online, and have a slightly clearer picture of things.

Can you have more than one sub?

What I am thinking is starting Monk and taking it to 30 to get the lvl 15 added hit points, then switching to Ninja until 20 to get the dual wielding. Then going warrior the rest of the way.

Basically 60 warrior (or as high as it goes), 15 monk, 10 ninja.

Is this doable? Or can you only have one sub?

Nope, you can only have one sub, and you'll probably always want to keep it at half your main job's level (having more than one sub job leveled isn't bad either). If you want to be a Warrior with Dual Wield, you have to be War/Nin.

            Things are becoming clearer now.

Okay, more questions. Sorry for all these but I have created completely gimped characters in too many MMORPGS. I want to know exactly what I am doing before I even enter the character creation process.

            1. So after switch professions and have a main and sub skill, you can continue raising the sub skill? Limited of course to half the main.

            2. I found an area where it talked about weapons per class. Says the axe is an "A" weapon for warriors. And sword is a "B" weapon for warriors. How much would going swords over axes hurt me?

            3. Which is more effective. Dual wielding two weapons, or using two handed weapons?

            4. If I wanted to be a dual wielding swordswoman would I be better off going Warrior/Ninja or Samurai/Ninja? Or for that matter, going monk for the added hit points and going with ninja as my main?

            Thank you for your patience.

ill answer as many questions as i can ...
1.if i understand you right this how it is....say you have a lvl 30 war and you want to lvl your sub job which is monk more, you can change to monk and they can lvl monk up to 30 to but when you sub war it will be half of 30...Basically you can lvl up as much as you want but it will be the half of your main ie: 60 war/30 mnk, 60 mnk/30 war.
2.what it will halt is the skills you can use with the weapon if it is a "B" weapon you can only use up to "X" amount of skills but if its "A" you can use almost all skills...it doesnt differ much but if you wish to do a different kind of renkie choose your weapon wisely!!!
3.im not sure about dual wield weapons besides the fact that they look c l but i know 2 hand weapons are POWERFUL with a capital P!!! but they are slow and you do miss alot with them unless you have a bard...and thats where i come in lol
4.nin/mnk is 1 of those combos that look good on paper in my opinion....but whateva floats your boat........in my opinion i would pick out of those choices war/nin but a great war is a war/mnk or war/thf or war/pal and the list goes on
I AM OPEN TO EDITS FOR WRONG INFORMATION I PUT ON I WILL BE PLEASE FOR CORRECTIONS!!!!
              Player Name:Sebastian the Bard
              Main Job/Sub Job:Bard/White mage
              Guild:----
              Level:--/--
              Clan:Alexandrian Knights

Okay, can anyone answer this then?

Lets say I go Warrior main, Sub Ninja.

How does the full level of 1 hand axe compare to 1 hand sword minus what I would be missing because sword would only be a "B" weapon to me?

I read somewhere that someone said they felt axes were inferior to swords.

And does anyone know if dual wielding two one handed weapons would compare to a single two-handed weapon?

Ninja's a bad Sub, as most Adv. Jobs are. I don't really know anything about those Grades for Weapons, but you can Dual Wield any weapon as long as it is 1 handed.

yes, typically advanced jobs are bad subs but people seem to make exceptions for 3 of them.

Summoner-Mages sub this a lot for the big MP boost and Auto-Refresh skill at 50/25

Ninja-People make exceptions for this sub because dual wielding is just so cool, LoL.

Samurai-People sub this class at 60/30 for the Silent Concentration skill to charge TP fast.

It is impossible to "gimp" a character in FFXI, because if you decide you don't like a job, the you can just change jobs, and then change back if you change your mind without losing any stats. Also, you don't level up, only your jobs do, so getting a melee character to Lvl 70 will not hurt your ability to be a mage.
