I saw a topic on this when it first came out, but now that it has had time to circulate I'd like to know what the rest of you think of the dagger. I just bought mine today for 550k, which was down from 1M on the weekend, but cannot use it yet. I'm just wondering if it was a good idea to buy it

I paid 1.2M for mine. Thought it was at the start of a major upswing. Turns out it is down to 900k 2 months later. Still can't use it =/

The following is a repost of a little rant of mine about getting my H.Harpe that I always thought was kind of funny/typical of ffxi:
As an epilogue to my little story, after I posted this, I made up my mind to get the hoplite's harpe. this was at about 3pm. I didn't get home until 1am, and I had this sinking feeling in my stomach all afternoon that I would blink and suddenly the price would jump up 200k or something. (nevermind that the price history had been steady at 1 mil.)

So I get home and the 1 that was on sale is now sold. Price: $1,400,000. Someone (I'm going to call him Bob) paid 40% more than the price of all the rest. Oh I was pissed.

So I check the next night, and another Harpe has sold, TO BOB AGAIN, for $1,500,000! He's freaking dual-wielding harpes!! GAH!!

So at that point I'm disgusted with the game. I don't log on for a day or two. I come back, and lo and behold, suddenly everyone's got harpes to sell now that they've increased in value by 50% in 2 days.

So I start bidding. No luck at $1M. Or $1.1M or $1.2. Finally, with the last of my cash, I got it for 1.25 mil. And the kicker...BOB was the guy who sold it to me!!

HE SOLD IT AT A $275,000 gil loss after AH listing fees, Just TWO days after buying the damn thing!

I have 15k right now. I haven't been this poor since I got my subjob. SO yeah, don't think I'll be getting my scorpion harness any time soon.

      <edit>

P.S., There is a really cool side-benefit to having a level 68 harpe...

I've got something tangible to look forward to for a long time now.

      Level 65: Shiva's Claws/Evasion torque
      Level 66: Level 3 skillchains
      Level 67: Assault Jerkin
      Level 68: Hoplite's Harpe ^.^
      Level 69: Black Cote
Level 70: Warcry, War Gloves, War Beret

      Pretty nifty.
      You know I'm right.

Well, personally I believe it is worth it, however my thf philosophy has always been dagger DMG before anything else. Since dagger DMG is so low, every 1 extra point of DMG seems to increase total damage a great deal.

I wouldn't call it conclusive evidence but I took my 30 thf out to South Gustaberg and played with the lizards for a while. I took a small sword (D13 Dex +2) and a Tuck (D15). I just did a bunch of SAs to lizards with the small sword and then after about 5-10 times of hitting the exact same number (what I'd assume to be my damage max) I equipped the tuck and repeated the process. I kept hitting the same number. This makes me believe the formula floating around that Dex is added directly to the weapon DMG rating for SA is true. I hit my cap more often on the Small Sword, by the way, but that could very well be chance since I didn't spend any more than 20 minutes on this project.

I'd doubt that rambling helped you at all considering I'm not seeing any daggers with enough dex to put the damage over 27 til the Gully or Stylet. And then of course there's the benefits of +attack to be figured in on other daggers...

On the subject of elite daggers:

It seems pretty likely to me that (if you are using Shark Bite) Martial Knife smashes every other knife into bits.

According to Studio Gobli, SB's TP modifier is 2.0 @ 100% TP and 3.0 @ 300% TP (200% TP modifier unknown). If SB's 200% TP modifier is even 2.1 at 200% TP, Martial Knife is already better than a Perseus's Harpe. If SB's multiplier is something closer to 2.5 @ 200% TP, it would destroy P. Harpe without question.

Of course, all of the above assumes that you are firing WSes at 100-200% TP.

I get a MUCH higher SATA Shark and SATADE with hoplites harpe as opposed to gully on EXP mobs at 75.

              Gully D25 and DEX+2
              Hoplite harpe D27
So i doubt its as simple as adding DEX onto the D

Adding DEX onto the D only applies to hits with SA stacked. For DE, that would only be 1 of the 6 hits, and for SB, that would be only 1 of the 3 hits (assuming you are still using /NIN).

The other hits are calculated without the DEX added to weapon DMG, so weapon DMG is more important.

Interestingly enough, if you look at the Lust Dagger:

                D20 AGI+7 DEX-1 [other -stats]

...that works out to a D26 dagger for SATA and a D27 dagger for TA (only D19 for SA, though). That pretty much blows away every other dagger for quite a while.

I actually find dual wielding corsair knives give about the same damage SATAVB than corsair main, lust sub - and more than lust main, corsair sub. (at lv 51 when i tested it)
