  • Additional Dex and Agi

    Right now I'm level 36 with +15 Dex and +12 Agi. I'm wondering if this is average, below average, or above average because this is the first time I've leveled thief seriously. I have about one million gil in equipment and I'm wondering how I'm going to afford Deft rings ; ;

I'm pretty mix-n-match, so what's the best course of action for my stats thus far?

I think you're missing a lot of potential DEX items, though some of it depends on your race and subjob.

As a Mithra THF/NIN, my current equipment setup is:
    Main: Federation Kukri
    Sub: Mithran Scimitar (+3 DEX)
    Range: Long Boomerang (+2 AGI)
Head: Emp. Pin (+3 DEX, +3 AGI)
    Neck: Spike Necklace (+3 DEX)
Body: Merc. Capt. Doublet (+1 DEX, +1 AGI)
    Hands: Battle Gloves
    Legs: Noct Brais+1 (+2 DEX)
Feet: Leaping Boots (+3 DEX, +3 AGI)
Ears: Drone Earring x2 (+6 AGI)
Rings: Deft Ring x2 (+6 DEX)
    Back: Nomad's Mantle (+1 AGI)
Waist: Merc. Capt. Belt (+1 DEX, +1 AGI)

    Total: DEX+22 AGI+17 (~1mil on Quetz)

If you're dead serious about THF, I'd say your stats are a little low. It can be expensive bringing it up, but the investment has served me well. I'd make sure you have the boots and pin. They're incredibly useful for THFs, and last a loooong time(till endgame possibly?). I'd suggest getting the Deft Rings too, but they might be a lot more on your server(140k a pair on mine).

I'd suggest you keep adding DEX, though it might be good to add some STR(depending on what race you are). I rely on mithkabobs for most of my STR and ATK bonuses, and my SATA Viper Bite caps around 500(either a little higher or lower).

If you post your equipment I might be able to give some more advice, but I hope I was able to answer your question.

I don't think anyone will expect you to have the Pin and Boots. They're great items, yeah, so are Astral Rings for mages. You can still be serious about Thief and not have them.

Neara's equipment pretty much covers your goal though. I would suggest getting the Deft rings before even thinking about the pin and boots (+6 Dex for 140k is way better than +3 Dex +3 Agi for 300k+)

      -- edit --

Oh, actually, if you're Thf/Nin, technically you'd be wanting one Genin Earing and one Drone Earring.

Well, if you think +1 more Agi is worth 200k XD

My Equip at Lv. 30 (Thf/War)

      Federation Knife
      Maple Shield (Pfft)
      Flame Boomerang
      Noct Beret +1
      Spike Necklace
      2x Beetle Earring +1
      Merc. Capt. Doublet
      Legionnaire's Mittens
      2x Balance Ring
      Merc Capt. Belt
      Noct Brais +1
      Noct Leggings +1

This puts me at Dex +13 and Agi +4

By 36 I should have Deft Rings, Drone Earrings, and a Long Boomerang. which will put me at.... Dex +15, Agi +12, Ironically =P

        Thf/War

        Main: Federation Kukuri
        Sub: Frost Shield
        Ranged: Long Boomerang
        Head: Emperor Whorepin
        Neck: Spike Necklace
        Ears: Drone Earrings
        Body: Mithra RSE
        Hands: Noct Gloves
        Rings: Deft Rings
        Back: Wolf Mantle +1
        Belt: Merc. Captain's
        Legs: Noct Brais+1
        Feet: Noct Boots +1

I'm no good with farming, and I'm surprised I've gotten thus far.

I know they've gotten more expensive since I bought them, but still...no theif should be out there without a hairpin and leaping/winged boots.

The hairpin lasts from level 24 to 75, the boots last from 7 to at least 60 when you get AF.

You'll find no other gear as permanent as that.
          You know I'm right.

Ummm LL/winged>AF for sneak attack/trick attack in xp parties.

AF gives +2 steal, increases flee by 15 seconds, gives some hp bonus, and have about 15 defense. Only of which the dex affects our damage for obvious reasons.

LL is 3 dex and 3 agi so that concludes that. Unless you're hume though, which the original poster isn't so it wouldn't help him/her.

            Hume RSE 2 boots 3dex,2agi,3str.

As for improvements. Merc captain's doublet is 1 dex and 1 agi. Sounds better than mithra RSe which offers 1 str, the rest is chr,hp,etc, wouldn't help in typical XP parties although it sounds great for farming at that lvl.

For back I'd recommand nomad mantle. 2-3 def, 3 evasion, 1 agi. ALthough only the 1 agi would help you, it's great until better back pieces become available in the 50s and on. Plus the 3 evasion is good for farming and pulling.

For SATA the drones are perfect but for tp gaining inbetween SATAs the beetle+1 earrings would be good equips. So I recommand 2 sets of earrings for thf if you're really serious about it, otherwise stick with the drones.

Merc capt belt is fine for your thf's lvl. Until better things become available in the 40s and 50s if you go that high.

I think thf/war is all and all better pre 50 before dual wield 2, since you have berserk. But as you know this limits to one dagger which is fine. Going for a strike shield at lvl 40 if you have the gil isn't a bad idea, otherwise don't worry about this one.

And I'd definitely recommand LL boots. Of course it benefits your thf noticablely, but it's also great because they make great boots for any job at the lower lvls. Especially other DD jobs for quite awhile , it benefits when you go to lvl ninja as your sub, both tanking and dealing some hits. 3 agi and 3 dex isn't going to make a ninja much better, but if anyone can think of better boots than LL for it's lvl I'd love ot hear of them.

For weapon, whichever dagger has the highest base dmg for that lvl, in my experience it makes a large difference in SATAs. Switching from a few lvls back from bone dagger+1(18dmg,+5acc,+5attk) to lust dagger (20 or 21 dmg I think, -1 all stats,+7agi) has made a very big difference. The difference in 1 base dmg between daggers is more appartent than in heavy weapons.

Well, on the one hand you've got Leaping Boots: 3 Def, 3 Dex, 3 Agi.
On the other hand you've got AF boots: 13 Def, 3 Dex, Increased Flee, +2 Steal, +12 Hitpoints.

To me increased flee, +2 steal, 12 hitpoints, 10 defense and the 350K I got for selling them far outweighs 3 agility. Especially when I'm wearing aketon +1 and still use a lust dagger (total +13 agi in 2 pieces of equipment).

If you really want your extra 3 agility, keep both shoes in your inventory and do equipment swaps, which all self-respecting thieves will be doing by 60 anyhow. But I was poor, realized I needed sniper rings and I just couldn't justify keeping around leaping boots.
                You know I'm right.

You needed sniper rings as a thief?

Okay, I've made some changes, and made some money. So now I'm up to Dex+18 and Agi+15.

Saving up for those LL boots is going to be a chore.

Oh.. i'm only lvl 43 right now but i'm using 2 sniper. SO it'd be recommended to change to 2 +3 dex ring and spend the money better elsewhere?

I'd keep the Sniper Rings. Just get some Dex Rings to swap in and out for SATA.
