Dagger or Sword

I am a lvl 30 Thf and was wondering do i give up my Mirthan sword +3 dex each for daggers to get viper bite instead?? Which way works out better?

well you dont want to start using dagger at 33 unless you have it capped already. cause you want to be able to use viper bite as soon as you can. so if your dagger isnt at a high skill already better start using daggers. viper bite will give you like 400 damage with sneak + trick. much more powerful than sword.

Actually, SATA Fast Blade is about the same damage as SATA Viper Bite at 33. When I originaly got VB, I was disappointed because I was already doing that kind of damage with Fast Blade.

As for the original question, are you /NIN or /WAR?

If you're /NIN, you can use a dagger in your offhand until 33, then switch the sword to your offhand and dagger to main hand. However, do to the very low skill THFs have in daggers, I wouldn't suggest using it 40+ (I picked up a Mithran Sword at 45 and used it until 50, +3 DEX is not worth the loss in ACC and ATK).

If you're /WAR, using a Mithran Sword until 33 will give you the most damage. HOWEVER, you really want Viper Bite as soon as you get 33. If it's ok with your party, try to keep your dagger up to date then. If not, try to get a skill up party. Post 33, dagger all the way.

Yea im THF/NIN i have both weapon skills up just incase i need either or camping Lizzy now bout to go lvl to get viper bite see how much dmg i do

Personally, I suggest daggers. I've been using a Federation Knife and the admitedly-old Small Sword off and on since 25, and while SA+Fast Blade is nice, I find that even at 30 I really don't hit enough to use Fast Blade with more than a third of my Sneak Attacks. Of course, pre-30, using Fast Blade pretty much meant I was tanking, maybe now that I'm 30 I should pick up the Sword again, but buying a Mithran Scimitar to use for 3 levels doesn't sit with me.

Well, that and the fact that I only have about 10,000 Gil left, and still need to buy a Merc. Capt. Belt.... I blame the HQ Nocturnal Set >.>

At 33 it is time to wean yourself off swords. The damage is nice, but the skill gap only gets worse and worse. When you get VB, dagger caps at 102; sword is capped at 88. That's 14 attack right there.

At your level I dont think it would be much of a prob to use swords still.. unless your PT asks you to use viper to make a certian renkei.

But its up to you.. just test both out and see which one you like o.0

OK i have my first weapon is Federation dagger and in other hand i have Mithran Sword looks ok to me

I'd say start switching over to daggers at 33.

Ending with SATA+VB for Distortion is the largest single hit damage you can do at that level (including renkei effect), and it's all going onto the tank as well

Besides, I remember back when my thief was 33 the damage between SATA+VB and SATA+FB was comparable. But for some reason or another, once I hit 35, I remember SATA+VB being far better than SATA+FB. It might have been due to the Drone Earrings, but I'm not 100% sure.
