  • What is the role of THF/NIN in party?

I've seen tons of these around, but frankly none of them in my party, so i have not seen them in action. If someone please could post what their role is in the party. If its just to blink tank, or put hate on the tank? What is it?

same role as THF /whatever. Hate control, puller, etc.
You DON'T want a THF to tank. Ever.

    Thanks Yyg!

ok, so mainly what the /NIN sub is there for is for dual wield?

yes i know a THF should never tank, but what about a backup blink-tank?

        Thf/Nin

I'm a Thf/Nin and what I mostly do in my pts is i pull, and put hate on the tank before he/she provokes the mob. Then i just poke it with my daggers and throw a sneak attack in every once in a while
We're all here because we're not all there

It is possible to back-up blink tank, I've done so before. ^^
It's only possible though if the main tank has lost aggro. Just whip out a SA+WS and it should stick to you for a bit allowing everyone to get re-adjusted.

/NIN sub is there for dual wield, and also for Utsusemi. The idea behind it is that /NIN will help with pulling(blink before pull and not get hit) and also the dual wield increases TP gain(this is being debated though) to allow you to get off a quicker SATA+WS.

EDIT: Check out this post if you are interested in the more subtle differences between /WAR and /NIN:

If the last few levels have been any sign, we're there for damage. The Log Parser says I'm doing more damage than the taru blackmage (and it doesn't even count distortion), and therefore the most damage in the group. My static party consists of BLM, WHM, RDM, WAR, PAL, THF.

Actually we were neck and neck in damage last night now that he bought himself a darkstaff. Stupid darkstaff...
              You know I'm right.

Been thf/nin all of my levels as thief so far with my alt tarutaru. Used mainly for blink on pulls, increases tp gains via dual wield.

Blink helps a lot imo in some areas like valley of sorrows when pulling raptors. Dont matter if you are at longest distance you can be using a boomerang, that mob will still catch you and take some shadows if not all before you get to camp. Being tarutaru blink in that situation has saved me from dieing considering they hit for 100-140 on a taru

                Hope that helps

Yea its mainly for the Utsusemi to not get hit on long pulls and for the effects of a second dagger... a lot of them have nice effects and yu cant get both witha WAR or any other sub.

i just have a question. while lvling ninja what sub should I use? And should I waste my money on the scrolls and powders, because I hate being the blink tank.

And will I need to raise my norg fame for the flag quest? And if yes, what is the best way?

Well... In my opinion a nin without utsusemi in a pt is a waste of a pt spot. However, if you really don't want to blink tank, I would still surgest you use /war for lvling nin. Since for the first lvls of nin you can still make a decent back-up tank, even without utsusemi.

You don't need to raise your fame for the nin flag quest, however if you want the utsusemi and tonko scrolls, you should raise your tenshodo (norg) fame, since in the long run that will be cheaper than paying whatever the scrolls are worth on your server.

my opinion on the matter, same as any subjob thf, is that THF are there to help with SC and control hate a little here and there.

Same rules apply for DRK... DRG... SAM... although these jobs do more damage regularly, they are still there to complete a SC nonetheless.

The subjob shouldn't play a huge role in what your job does, unless your something like a WAR or NIN.

just a lil note on the /nin vs /war, the only thf/war i've pt'd with recently died a considerable amount on pulls... lol that's just 1 reason imo it makes the greater sub

<--- 75THF/NIN Blink owns. It saves alot of mp since mages wont have to heal u when u get back, and dual weilding daggers that proc defense down or anything like that is allways helpfull.

But... THF/WAR will definately put out more damage. So its really up to you imo because you die less as thf/nin but kill faster with thf/war.

Also, who says thief/nin cant tank? I tank just fine Simurgh, Serket, hell I have even tanked Suzaku before. 2 DRK/THF SA+TA+WS on me XD. Max evasion now
