I would think both SAM/WAR and SAM/MNK would be better than SAM/THF. If you sub THF then you only get Evasion bonuses and Steal, then at 30 Sneak Attack and at 60 Trick Attack.
Seems to me that a SAM could benefit more with the use of Provoke, Double Attack, Berserk, and an attack bonus.
Don't really know much about MNK's because I've never played one so I can't really comment on that. ^^<:3_)~

...So you don't play samurai, you know jack about MNK as you just said.. how the hell could you go and say sam/mnk (one of my most despised combinations) is better than sam/thf (the 2nd known 'top' sub for sams)? It's because of people like you that we actually get retards thinking mnk sub is worth something for sam~
WTF does mnk give? H2H bonus will really come in handy when Sam's busting one inch punch with no equipped h2h weapon. Focus? Pfffftt.. Give me a break man =\ MNK sub is complete garbage for sam and I'm pretty sure it's a well recognized fact by now
Sam/THF will work so-so at 30+ (more so at 60+).. I strongly recommend getting war 37, it's not all that bad~

I'm ever so sorry for upsetting you so badly.
If you would maybe actually read the post next time though you would see where it says "I think" not "I know for a fact".
And no I don't play SAM as I think it is the worst job in the game with MNK coming in as a close second. ^^ Note where it says "I think" in the before sentence, meaning that these are my opinions and are not to be taken as facts.
Not to mention that you called the topic poster a retard.
I hope I dumbed that down enough for you replica<:3_)~

back on to the topic...
I am a sam/thf. Why? Mainly because I lved thf in the beginning, etc etc. But I have played Sam using my pathetic war sub, but I don't care for it.
After getting to 30, trying /thf, I loved it. Yes, war get berserk, yes they get double atk, yes, they get warcry. Thf get sneak and trick atk. I have played sam/thf since 30 because I like it. I like sneak/trick because it takes some of the repetition out of the game. I do more with /thf sub than with war (even if it only is 2 Macros every minute).
I am tired of people tearing other's ideas down. If you want to play Smn/Drg, GO AHEAD! I for one couldn't care less. You want to play it, so be it, play it. You might not get many invites, but if it's what you like playing, screw it, PLAY IT!
YOU are paying to play, therefor YOU should decide what you want to play.
Back onto topic yet again: I rarely miss any WS as /Thf. If I somehow get invited to a PT and there's a Thf/???, I can pull if needed. Only thing is that the mages can't touch the mob until the Thf tricks onto the main tank. Takes maybe 5-10 sec extra, but it works, I've done it many times.
All in all, play what you want to. I won't get mad at you for playing any job, I just probably won't invite you. Want more invites? I agree that you will get more invites having /war, or better yet, lv both of them and ask the PT leader whicch is best.•70 Samurai•

Sams are worst next to DRG (imo.. and I think most peoples now). MNK are up there with DRKs and RNGs for the most part with damage or DoT -_- just not vs HNM (Sam do best MNK vs HNM i thiiiink)
The topic poster isn't a sam/mnk, he said he was considering it and he would have potentially fit into my description had he taken your opinion <.< kthx.
It's true that you can do whatever you wish.. hell, go Sam/smn if you want and then come post how many hours you spend LFG instead of actually being IN one. Sams have to wait enough as is (or make all of their PTs past 60 / get a set) so it is nice to have war AND thf subs handy for that search comment~ RNG is also a decent sub for them, but a better main.
I'm not saying war, thf, and rng are the ONLY possible subs for sam, or that you *have* to play those subs. I'm merely saying they're the known 'top' subs for Samurai right now. BBC said it best with his last line /nod

Personally, I feel Sam/War is best until level 30, at which point you can choose to either increase your weaponskill damage (/thf), or increase your overall damage (/war). If you're in a party with say, 2 blm, and you're a SC closer...well, in that case it might be better to be sam/thf, just to make sure that your WS connect and are decent damage. For general purpose, though, nothing beats /war for Sam.
Anyway, it's my opinion that both /war and /thf are valid depending on PT setup from 30-50. From 50-60, though..../war all the way. Double Attack is a no-brainer. It's extremely unlikely that Sam will be a SC closer in the 50-60 range, so /thf just doesn't make sense anymore.
At 60, /thf gives trick attack. Now, I'm kinda sketchy on any samurai weaponskills past the level 49 one (Jinpu?), and maybe Sam does get a decent damage WS for closing skillchains by level 60. If so, /thf is decent, allowing you to both increase WS damage and put the hate on someone else. If sam doesn't have a good closer by level 60, though, I would say /thf should be put on hold until there is a good closer.
The only things /thf is good for are closing skillchains, and farming. Don't think for a second that a sam/thf outdamages a sam/war overall...it's simply not the case. Berserk at 30, double attack at 50, physical attack up at 60, and warcry at 70 are all bread-and-butter traits/abilities.
Short version:
Reasons for /thf:
1) Farming
2) Skillchain closer
Reasons for /war:
1) Backup tank / trick attack set-up
2) Damage
Sam/mnk...I grouped with one of those, once. I wasn't impressed. Focus is nice, but it's no substitute for berserk, double attack, and *gasp* good enough +accuracy gear to be able to hit stuff without it. Any level 48+ samurai worth their salt has no excuse for not having at least +14 accuracy in gear. By 55, you should have at least +18. Monks do pretty well with that much accuracy...granted, they have focus. ^^
Drks are expected to be sporting at least +30 accuracy before they're through with the 50s, a 59 drk friend of mine has +44 (life belt, snipers, royal guard's collar, vassago's scythe, haubergeon, RK mufflers...and something else I'm probably forgetting). Sams don't have it so tough...and, if you're properly outfitted, you'll probably find yourself getting a lot more parties.
