  • SATA Macro Set Up

Hi i'm a level 13 thf and ive been reading the forums on how to do a sata combo. I understand the positions, but can some one show me step by step the macros, skills etc they use. Like for instance, say i engage sa and i'm positioned behind the main tank, then i go to use ta, but my char swings at the mob before i get ta engaged. is'nt that a loss of damage? I'm under the impression that i should use ta then sa then do an actual atack because the 2 buffs stack. Is this correct? Or do i need to do sata then do weapon skill? Seems like alot of time to set it up while the whole time your char would be attacking. Or am I way off in the way i think sa and ta work? Is sa actualy an attack move like a weapon skill? To say i'm confused is an understatement.

If sata work the way i think then I was thinking a macro like this:

    /ja "Sneak Attack" <me>
    /ja "Trick Attack" <me>

then i would enable my ws or attack. Is this correct? What about /wait do i need it in between? What if i add a ws at the end? Again i'm still a little confused with an attack taking place in between sa and ta. Any info on mastering this combo would be greatly appriciated. Thanks!

Have /wait 1 in between or 0.5? Not sure if it can go that low but whatever works.

      Macro 1:
      /ja "Sneak Attack" <me>
      /wait 1
      /ja "Trick Attack" <me>

      Macro 2:
      /ja "Sneak Attack" <me>
      /wait 1
      /ja "Trick Attack" <me>
      /wait 1
/ws "Viper Bite or whatever WS"

      Macro 3:
/ws "Viper Bite or whatever WS"

You need to stack sneak and trick attack, then attack. If your first hit isn't a backstab, then you will waste your sneak/trick attack for a minute. If my macro screws up and I only do sneak attack, I unlock from the target by pressing * and turn away, so that I don't attack until I'm ready.

It's up to the thief to decide if it's right to do sneak+trick without weaponskill. If you and your skillchain partner almost have 100% TP and the monster has decent HP, then it's worth saving your sneak/trick attack. If you're about to pull but your sneak/trick are ready, use it before pulling.

Sometimes the macro messes up and you either don't do trick attack or don't do a weaponskill. That's why I have a single macro with just weaponskill, in case the sneak/trick/weaponskill macro fails.

It makes a lot more sense once you get SA. When you use it it makes the next attack you do more powerful (when its from behind). Think of SA as a buff. It stays on your character for either a minute or until your next attempted attack (whichever comes first). To use your weaponskill just hit the macro whenever you see the animation for SA (or in the case of your question during TA). The only hard thing I'm having trouble with is using a ws w/ sneak attack at the end of a renkei, and thats mostly b/c i cant find a pt that actually knows how to do them (I'm pting w/ lvl 20's hardly any even talk about it...yes its very sad) Good luck w/ it though...and btw dont be afraid to tell your tank to "Quit moving around so damn much!!!!" It'll make landing SA much much easier.

            I use these:

            /ja "Sneak Attack" <me>
            /wait 1
            /ja "Trick Attack" <me>

            and

            /ws "Viper Bite" <t>

I use the second macro as soon as I see the trick attack animation and it works about 99% of the time just fine.

                Macros

Later on you'll be more eager to push your SA+TA as high as it can get... then you'll have one setup of eq for sa+ta and one for gaining tp.

I also had one extra macro for viperbite issues. Sometimes you accidentally charge SA+TA to early or when they JUST flash 98%tp. What I do then is press ctrl+a (sheathe weapons) then bring out my "backup" macro.

                [DrwVB] (Macro name, abbreviated DrawViperBite.)
                /attack
                /wait 1
                /ws "Viper Bite" <t>

As for the switch macros, I'll give you an idea, then let you work it out.
                [AccGr]
                /equip Ring1 "Sniper's Ring"
                /equip Ring2 "Sniper's Ring"
                /equip Waist "Life Belt"
                /echo Accuracy Gear: Ok

                [SaTaGr]
                /equip Ring1 "Deft Ring"
                /equip Ring2 "Deft Ring"
                /equip Waist "Mrc Cpt Belt"
                /echo Sa+Ta Gear: Ok

                Hope this helps somewhat.
                Good luck, happy sneaking.

The /wait is based off the latency of your computer. If you experience more lag than other people, you might want to make that number higher than 1 so you dont screw up the timing from one to the next, and end up doing Trick to VB or something

Meow, those equip macros screw up if you're equipping items with the same name into multiple slots. i.e. the two sniper rings won't equip properly if they're in the same macro. So, you end up having to have two macros to equip both sniper rings.

                      Uhh, no you don't.

The ranged attack macro I use with my NIN/RNG is as follows:

                      /equip ring1 "Beetle Ring +1"
                      /equip ring2 "Beetle Ring +1"
                      /ra <t>
                      /wait 8
                      /equip ring1 "Windurstian Ring"
                      /equip ring2 "Tourmaline Ring"

I have used this macro many, many times, with no problems at all. Currently, I'm using /wait 8 because I'm wielding a gun, but this macro works with shuriken (/wait 2) as well.

Check ctrl+e equipment list, 'cause it screws up some combinations of rings or earrings. I assumed things were fine, but then I was using a dex and accuracy ring at the same time.

                          Meowza

                          'lu.

I think the not equipping thing might be due to lag...
Same thing that makes my meditate get me 80% instead of 100 sometimes.

Anyways, take the habit of glancing at the log, or just pressing the macro twice, then you should be ok. (log : 3 eq changed > 3 "Equipment Changed" msg's.

Might be hard to catch in battlespam, but for me, I've managed ^^

Good luck! (I change in rings and earrings as a sam trick partner, never had any trouble.)

                          [Def]
                          /ja Defender <me>
                          /equip Ear1 "Drone Earring"
                          /equip Ear2 "Drone Earring"
                          /equip Ring1 "Phalanx Ring"
                          /equip Ring2 "Phalanx Ring"
                          /echo Def Gear: Ok.

Just this macro drops my trick partner damage from 100/hit to 60/hit. And actually makes me evade the occasional attack. Like one in 30 XD And one parry in 60

Then it's back to biz with berserk macro
                          [Zerk]
                          /ja Berserk <me>
                          /equip Ear1 "Spike Earring"
                          ....... and so on.

I DO recommend any trick partner to use defender and/or a eq switch macro, especially for the ring/earring/belt/neck slots, since they have almost no lag when switching.

Mithrankittycat, a thought... Did you switch "blinking" parts when your macro messed up? (i.e. body and the likes).
And when you blink, what's the command for relocking target?
/lockon? (I should know this, but shamefully, I don't)

                          Anyways, as always, good luck!
