  • Rabbit's Charm

Hey everyone, I'm loving my switch from Rdm to THF, and my THF is reaching lvl 25 fast. My plans are to get to lvl 25 asap, and once i get flee, i'm going to take about a week off of leveling to hunt NMs and farm etc.

My question is this: I have about 150k right now, just from getting rid of some of my RDM gear, and I'm wondering how much "Steal +1" would help me when it comes to stealing Mythril Beastcoins from Gustav Tunnel. I want to buy the charm, and earn the money for Emperor's Hairpin(since i won't be able to solo it at 25, probably).

So, in the end, how much of a difference is within that ONE steal point..? how many steal points do THFs have innately? would purchasing the Rabbit's charm (for 200K) help me out considerably in the stealing department?

    Thank you for your help

The innate steal rate of the item that square sets has much more of an impact than +1 stealing. I currently have +10 stealing with AF + thf kote + rouge ring ( i let my self get hurt for latent effect) and I still have a low steal rate stealing gold coins. Onlything missing is rabbit charm which is like 400k on seraph. As far as stealing mirthril, it isn't worth buying rabbit charm. You can't really farm them solo either, only while you are in a pt (you can't steal and zone, too limited of a supply and other pts means you can't train gobs).

Currently, i still never farm by stealing, I take advantage of treasure hunter 2 or sometimes coffer hunting.

So again, don't buy rabbit charm, and don't try to camp it =)

You will not be able to solo Emperor till around 31. And even then its a bit tricky.

I'm curious as to what I should sub to hunt the emporer. Should I sub ranger, ninja, or warrior. None of these are completely leveled as a sub as you can see in my sig.

With ranger I get wide scan but I'm not sure how important that is if the camping area is crowded. If I see it on my scan yet it isn't near me, chances are when I do get there (even with flee) it will have been claimed.

With warrior I get provoke, which has a zero delay of claiming him, as opposed to my 300 delay boomerang.

With ninja I get blink, which means I should have no trouble soloing the emporer at all. But I do not get scan or provoke.

Will I have any problem defeating the emporer if I can claim him? Suggestions welcome.

For Emperor, I would recommend you still sub Ranger to your Thief for the camp. I don't think you should have any problems soloing him at that level, can always use a Mithkabob if hes giving you a problem.

Also, you said something about the Boomerang you use. I would suggest using a Dart instead (168 delay). Its still not as fast as provoke, but I don't think you'll have a problem with that low of a delay ranged attack. You can buy them from Torapiont in Selbina.

Go /BST. Widescan + Charm. I've read that widescan gets better as you level BST, but I haven't noticed anything different from lv1 and lv15.

from my personal experience, rabbit charm+thief kote took testimony hunting from 2 hours to about 20 minutes. Maat still beats the hell out of me every time though >_<
Steal never works and he always ends up dragon kicking me for more than my maximum hp...
A 300% Sneak Attack Shark Bite knocks off half his HP and makes him groan about it hurting at least
but he always does that damn dragon kick and it always hits at least 850 >_<
              Only thing i don't have is the rogue ring but the one thats ALWAYS on sale never even sells for more than 10k over the highest history. been in the auction house longer than i can remember too o_O;;
I guess on the plus side, the money i spend for genkai5 is on equips i can use forever while my poor RDM friend is blowing vile elixers like they grow on trees >_<

all ranting aside, at your curent level and state it is not worth it unless you just happened across jack and got it by accident. Rabbit Charm is more of a high level luxury item for pushing your gold coin steal rate as close to 100% as possible or getting that extra edge against Maat. once you have Rabbit Charm and Thief kote you make "skill up" parties in gold coin areas. that is its real use =P
I suppose it is technically the best necklace until spike necklace also, but thats no reason to spend that much on it...

wanna know something disturbing? In Beta, i was running to LTP when i noticed Jaggedy, killed him, got the rabbit charm on my first kill ever, then sold it for 10k XD!!!!
I had no idea what it was worth, beta being my first time playing FFXI. It still haunts me... 10k.....:dead:

on a whim, i dragged some of my friends to fight him once. we got the drop on the first try. ^^ it was camped like crazy, but there were 4 of us, so we didn't have much trouble.

a funny story that happened to me tonight though. . . i was out leveling my thief (my main is monk, but i'm leveling thf to farm and use as a subjob) and i was lvl 10 at the time, fighting EP's in ronfaure, and i think, why not hang around where jack spawns just for fun. in fact, i'll sub my lvl 1 bst just to try that a bit. well i do for a while, collecting rabbit hares and crystals and stuff, getting nice easy exp, and then i see jack. i'm at about 130/150 hp (something like that) and i had a pet scarab beetle. jack kills my beetle which was almost dead, and then goes to work on me. i get him to within an inch of his life and BAM, he kills me. my HP is at the outpost, so i warp and run like mad back to where he was. there he sits, still unclaimed, almost dead, so i got him again! No drop, but it was a fun fight. So now i'm 1/2 on Jack

Jack is the devil. I camped him for three days straight, killed him 10 times, and the only thing he ever dropped was rabbit meat.

A month later, I was on chocobo to Valkurm running across jacks spawn area and there he is, so I jump off my chocobo and beat the tar out of him again and still no drop.

                      Valkurm Emporer was another story.
Camp 5 minutes, Emporer spawns right in front of my face, kill him and get the Hairpin. :spin:

If you are camping the emperor bring your ranger for the sub. I usually have to 2h the sucker when i camped it at 41/5(should lvl rng more so i dont have to 2h it) but if you tp up to 300% before the fight it should be easy. Ranger is needed becuase Ive allways gotten it when it dosnt spawn in the trees. Im 2/4 and @ 220k a pop that isnt a bad 3 or 4 hours spent watching tv and widescaning.

As for jack im 1/3 now and the only drop was when i was chocoing by, hopped off, sneaked the sucker and it droped.

What level do you think one should be to solo the Emperor?
