Then why do I get 10% tp back sometimes, and 5% other times? And I look in the log to make sure that I didn't hit the mob with a normal attack.

My friend who, at the time, was a 41 THF was doing this, with only the hairpin. I think it might make a difference in that she is a mithra - the elvaan THF's I PTed with at this level couldn't even come close, were more around 150-200.

10% TP return is /NIN Dual Wield.

Dual Wield adds a hit to WS.

          Centurio X-I 1/1 - Celphie 1/1 - Deadly Dodo 0/2 - Doppleganger Dio 0/1 - Jaggedy-eared Jack 0/7 - Joo Duzu the Whirlwind 1/1 - Leaping Lizzy 2/16 - Mimas 0/1 - Odqan 1/9 - Orcish Wallbreacher 0/1 - Ose 1/3 - Sagittarius X-XIII 1/1 - Serpopard Ishtar 3/6 - Silk Caterpillar 1/2 - Tom Tit Tat 0/2 - Trickster Kinetix 0/2 - Valkurm Emperor 6/10 - Wyvernpoacher Drachlox 1/1

My thief at 36 could deal from 300-500 SATA+Viper Bite
on worker crawlers in crawler's nest. FUN FUN
At lv.45 it gets really easy for you to make enough money to buy all of that with steal/mug/hide/flee.
can you elaborate on that? how would mug bring a decent amount of money at all ><. 45 you get hide and treasure hunter 2 which are both good but how would you get alot of money just doing steal/mug/flee/hide, i know you're not hunting coffers at lvl 45 since you cant cast invis with a whm sub ^-^

not always, my friend he was an elvaan same lvl as me, used about the same gear i think, except at the time He was using Elvaan rse gloves and boots and emp.hairpin which he borrowed, and acid knife vs my acid knife/merc.kurki, leapin boots, emp.hairpin, merc gear san'dorian gloves, used cheifkabobs both of us. He outdamaged me which confused me >< he had less dex and agi compared to my mithra but im guessing /war gave more damage to his SA/TA/VB vs my /nin now i only sub /war for the occasional berserk and get to use a pretty frost shield but i'll probably sub ninja after 40 because i dont want to level up warrior.
We were 34 at the time hunting at garliage

Find a good zone-line with beastmen, E/W Altepa near the outpost is pretty good. Run up to the mob:

              /ja "Mug" <t>
              /wait 1
              /ja "Steal" <t>
              /wait 1
              /ja "Hide" <me>

You can manually engage flee if you want.

Run back across the line. You only get 50-100 or so gil per mug, but you have the ability and need to wait 5 minutes after stealing anyway, so may as well use it.

I've also heard theives do this near the Rabao zone line. There is an Ant ranger there. Hide doesn't work on ants, but he's not much of a danger at lv.45 anymore, you should be able to get away safely.

There are a few threads with more info on stealing. Not being a THF, I can only tell you the places I've seen others do it, I haven't actively been seeking them out.
