it could have just been latency. If he's in jp and you're in america, he has much better ping than you do, which means mobs will appear in his wide scan before they do in yours.

have you ever hit a macro or attack and it took a few seconds to activate? this is because we're connecting to servers in jp, and we have bad ping to them.

nothing you can do about it really, until they put in NA servers.
