wat weapon do you get when you start as a thief and is there a ulimate weapon for the thief?

best is to start with something hand to hand.. (sword is possible after beginning too) and take up dagger once you get to the 20's
I don't know about your other question. All I can say is that right now I'm using bone dagger +1 (im level 49):

attack +5
accuracy +5
It's level 46 or something.. before that I used the AF1 dagger which gives you agi and dex bonus.THF60 / RNG31 / NIN30 / WAR28 / WHM25 / BST19 / BLM15 -
The answer to the ultimate weapon for a thf is highly debatable but I am sure that many ppl will agree that the uber weapon for a thf in terms of overall usefulness and wow factor will be the
"Thief Knife" which gives you Treasure Hunter +1, last sold for 5 Million gil ish
Other fairly cool weapons for thieves include the chicken knife which gives flee and is really fun
Kitchen Knife which supposedly has the highest damage of any knife in the game but I have never seen one. Heard it gives cooking +3 also =D (heard it is found on a NM tonberry)
Also heard that Kirin, the hardest HNM in the game, drops a super knife but it is supposed to be Rare Ex and no one I know can kill it yet so ask them wacky JP players75/bst, 60/smn, 51/rdm, 46/whm, 40/blm, 37/nin, 37/thf, 37/war, 32/sam, 25/brd, 10/pld, 7/mnk
