    * yes I used search first *

Will ding 30 tonight, but would like to ask a few questions about this first.

Trick Attack, how does it work and what do I need to know about it?

    Thanks!

trick attack is attack which will place hate onto another person standing between you and the monster you are attacking... it appears to be a critical hit, the damage of which is supposidly affected by agility

for example.. paladin is attacking monster, thief moves behind paladin so that paladin is between monster and thief.. thief now activates trick attack, the next attack of the thief hits for 130 points of damage (as opposed to 10-20).. the monster believes that the paladin has just hit it for 130 points of damage, and not the thief..

as you may know of already.. trick attack may be stacked with physical weaponskill - suck as fasblade, combo, viper bite or dancing edge.. and may also be stacked with sneak attack and used with person standing behind monster.. this is known as fuidama, and is only reason that thief is invited to party at higher level ^^

hope this makes sense to you

      What he/she said. :p

You may want to start looking into more AGI boosting equipment, as opposed to DEX, which Sneak Attack is based on. For instance, I use Amethyst Rings ofr boosting SA at lower levels, and will use an Amethyst and a Tourmaline Ring once TA comes. Unless of course there are better boosting Rings.

If you have the choice between and equal amount of Dex or Agi for a slot, always pick Dex.

The main reason for this is there are often times during your life as a thf when you won't be able to trick, but you can do sneak. In these cases, your +Agi items are wasted for damage.

excellent, thats pretty much what I determined by watching other thieves and reading a bit on it. TY for the information. Now if I could only get a group for more than 15 mintues...

Does the monsters back have to be facing the paladin too? Or can the monster be facing the paladin as you pull trick attack off?

You'll require a second tank to pull aggro off the main tank for you to accomplish the trick attack, but once you have accomplished the trick attack it will be difficult to pull the creature of him/her again. Yes, the creatures back must be facing that paladin.

No. Trick Attack does NOT require special positioning of the monster. That's only if you want to stack it up with Sneak Attack. However, Trick Attack doesn't have the huge accuracy boost Sneak Attack does, so doing it on it's own you will often miss.

If you manage to get into a group with no one to fuidama off of, my personal preference is to do Trick Attack with weaponskills on the tank. It does less damage than Sneak Attack + WS, but it helps aggro management, which (like it or not) is your job.

or if you have a brave (foolish) mage with stoneskin and blink, they can pull the inital aggro letting you pull off a quick fuidama.

I recommend having sneak/trick already buffed beforehand if you pick this method.

When I hit 30, it was the other thief in the party that wanted me to use SA+TA combo onto her while it faced the paladin. XD

She just wanted to see how it was done, and thanks to her, I got the kinks worked out in my SA+TA.
