  • Thief on International Server...Language Barrier

Hi everyone, I haven't posted anything for a long time but...Well I'm not too happy about having this international server thing. At lvl 40+ it is so troublesome to find a party. Most of the time when I'm online, there is usually JP people LFG or making a group, but they don't usually want any NE players in their pt. As for NE players, it takes forever to form a group, or a group won't even be formed due to not enough members or missing needed job class. I've waited around one hour or more a few time already with nothing to do but sit in Jueno. I've heard some JP told some NE players from my LS friend saying, "No group, don't want death". Yea, I was cracking up. It is true there are a lot of NOOBs that makes JP players not want to play with NE players. Oh well, I hope there is another server transfer thing when the PS2 version comes out. I'm going to transfer but it really sucks being on international servers. Even if that means I have to play with some NOOBs, it is better than being bored everytime I log on. Btw, does anyone know if there will be a server transfer thing when PS2 version comes out like? Well thanks for your time.

Language is indeed a huge trouble for jobs like Thf, you need to communicate a lot to your mates... um well not a lot but you need to plan out sneak-trick with other fighters : /

If your play time is always on JP prime time, you should consider learning some basic japanese. Or change your play time. When I form a group, I consider my members a lot based on their comments.

Learn what JP put in their comments, there are some important information every JP PT leaders want to know before inviting a person into the group. your @ till next level, the telepoint gates you have, weapon you use, your Dex, etc. Those are not only helpful to make a working group, it also give the leaders idea about how much you know your job.

Yea, I try to use a lot of the translation phrases to communicate but the problem is I can't understand them when they have all those JP characters. Their comment on search is either, "JP only" or "I speak no English", so that sure assume they don't want NE players. I got a few invites before with JP party but that is of course one of the JP knows a little English. JP are excellent players no doubt, but it does get boring when there is no conversation with the party that you can understand. Also, it seems to me that a lot of JP LFG but they don't form a party either(probably always waiting for bard to show up to start a pt). I have tried to start a group with some JP players in it but their reply is either none or I speak no english, usually. From my experience with EQ, half of the fun in conversing and being able to find pt give only a certain playtime amount. Yes, there is other things you can do like crafting or quests but that doesn't solve the problem of this. I think it would have been more fun to have start on an all NE server(had they had one) or transfered when it was avaliable. I just hope this experience changes for those NE players like me who having the same experience. Also replying to Jei, I comment all the time since lvl 30 with this on experience points. I don't put stats because I don't have good stats items to boost me. I have +9 dex, +6 agility but that suck compare to JPs listing theirs at +15 to +20s. It would probably put me lower on getting chosen. I'll try to list my weapons, but I've never seen that from any JP playes or I didn't know because of language barrier >_<. Well thanks for the tip Jei. Here is what I put on my comments <see below>.

      Comment on Search:
      [Hello.] @#### [Home Point][Lower Jueno]
[Looking for Party] [Please Invite me.]
[I want experience points.] ----maybe I should change this?

its true that sometimes it can get a lil boring if you cant understand them and they cant understand you.
but if its a good PT il keep playing and just talk to my LS instead. :D

If you have your "Seek Party" flag on and you're using the "Green dot" comment, then I think these 2 are a little redundant and don't need to be in your comments. I used these comments when leveling THF 35+:
            @####tnl DEX+18 AGI+10
            [Teleport-Altep]&[Kazham][Pass] OK
            fuidama+[Viper Bite] OK
            or
            [Home Point][Jeuno]
(if i'm somewhere else besides Jeuno... also I think the fact that I use Viper Bite should be a given, but I put it in there anyway just to show that I know how to play my job )

Now when leveling SAM I use:
            @####tnl JP/EN PT ok
            I use [Great Katana]&[Polearm]
            [Japanese]->[I don't understand]

Though once I get 25+ I'll change that last line to
            [Teleport-Altep]&[Kazham][Pass] OK

You can find more tips on what to put in your comments in this thread

              My comment:
xxxx/xxxx Subjob: [Ninja] (incase I'm using BLM sub for warp)
              Dex +xx Agi +xx
GC ~ All; HP: [Port Jeuno]

I think it hits pretty much everything a leader is looking for, and it's mostly understandable by EN and JP players.
