  • Advanced Subjob Dillema

Up untill now (when I started thinking), i had my heart set on being a THF/NIN. But now, looking back over it, it doesnt look as spectacular as it once did. Just for Dual weild when sheilds can give decent stats as well? Seemed pretty gimpish.

A subjob that caught my eye was SAM, but I thought to myself, naa, the stats would be considerably less, so I whipped out the stats calculator and took it for a test drive.

    THF/NIN (Mithra)
    Dex Agil
    1174 0 62 94 62 84 68 45 41

    THF/SAM (Mithra)
    Dex Agil
    1212 0 62 93 62 80 68 48 43

    Differences negligable, at best.

So it becomes a case of Dual Weild and Stealth vs TP Store and Meditate. (Ninjitsu seems pretty limited).

Now, with my eyes open, Im starting to think /sam is the better subjob (with more useful abilities), yet there are more THF/NIN's than THF/SAM's.

Anyone have an opinion on this?

In addition to Dual Wield, you get a delay reduction. At level 25NIN its 15%. Between slightly faster 2 weapons, and dancing edge, you generate TP fast enough to WS skill on each trick attack.

I also like the ability to turn myself invis with Tonko:ichi. Helps when travelling and when things turn bad you can lose agro. Blink helps a little with pulling.

My THF is level 30. Weapons that give DEX And AGI seem more plentiful at that level than shields that do.

There are a lot of THF/NIN's because the stat bossts the NIN subjob help a THF a lot more. More DEX and AGI than a SAM.

But in the end it basically comes down to your preference.

Actually, the stats boost difference from subbing nin and subbing sam is minimal. You get like 1 more dex by subbing nin than subbing sam at around lvl 40, but the major thing is that you get to dula wield. There is a dex+4 dagger at later lvls, and there is also an agi+4 dagger at later lvls (correct me if my memory doesn't serve me right), dual wielding those would be a pretty big advantage. On the other hand, thfs can SA+TA+DE every minute if they sub sam. Basically, if your thf is not above lvl 60 to get meditate from a sam sub, I suggest subbing nin for dual wield.
