  • Theif a good starting Job to make gil?

I don't intend to use theif as Primary Job or SJ later lvls but just to start out and get to lvl 5 or so and steal and get some gil sounds like it could be a good idea.

Basically I want to know how good "steal" and "gil steal" are, I have heard of people getting crystals at low lvls so that sounds worth it.

I was also thinking of lvling theif up to 5 or maybe 15 after I get subjob quest done if that would make it easier.

One last thing. I have heard INT effects success chance of stealing, how much does it matter at low lvls? would there be a difference between a lvl 5 taru and 5 elf chance of stealing?

    THanks!

If you're not planning on playing as a thief past 5/15/etc there's no point to playing as a thief if you want to make money. Any melee job is fairly adequate at making money early on simply by paying attention to the trends at the auction house.

Steal really doesn't become lucrative until you start stealing gold beastcoins, and well, I'm not at that point yet. I've made most of my money from the AH and farming stacks of items that sell.

Gil finder is nice, but its not gonna make a ton of money.

I think so. One of the people in my link shell seemed really impressed that he'd managed to get 20,000 gil. He's the same level as me and I hadn't even tried looking for gil, just got what came to me and I was on almost 50,000 a few days ago before I spent it all on new equipment.

That's not all from the pilfer gil mind you, although the extra can't hurt but the extra drops can be a big help. A party I was in had me and another thief, both with treasure hunter, we must have had the entire scale armour set plus a few repeated items from about 2 hours in Shakhram Maze.

THF don't have an advantage at all in gil. Steal gets things no one will buy (especially at level 5) and no money. Gil steal is at level 35 or something, gil increase drop rate hardly changes anything.

WAR could make a lot more money, they can last longer gil faster and they have provoke (great when getting those gobs who drop gil).

Also, my personal favorite place for money is wind, you can farm in giddeus, or farm silk from crawlers in W saru.

That is not exactly true, I have stolen fishing rods that sell for 1K. You can sell stacks of beastcoins for at least 1K, you can steal saruta cotton that sells for 3.5K to 4K per stack. This is at level 5-10, it gets even easier at 20 when stealing is fairly high from low level mobs.

You just need to know what to steal from. Yes it is not gonna make you mega bucks but will increase your gil when you are out farming or even for raising tradeskills.

Treasure Hunter at level 15 is where the real money is at though

I am level 20 THF main and I have over 50K in my bank and about another 15K sat in my delivery box that I need to go pick up. THF is an awesome job for gil. I also have pretty expensive equipment for a non-twinked n00b.
