What are the pros and cons of playing a Thief?

My original intention was to create a small FAQ for the newcomers to sort out some of the more general questions they might have, but I gave that up after getting a lof of hate posts, but I hope what information that is posted here can be of help to people in the end.
Anyways, feel free to post what you think are the pros and cons of playing this job

    Negorath.

Well I'd say one of the pros of playing a thf is, that you will never need to rest in a PT if you know what your doing. I am lucky if I have to rest ones in a xp PT everyone else has to rest an I can just stand. Something else that is very awesome bout a thf is TH1, TH2 and Gil finder. You will get a lot of PT invite if they need to farm gil NM monsters an a lot other things. The THF deals awesome dmg (dont know bout after this new update comeing) but anyways. I think they can deal some of the best dmg in the game, and its fast dmg.

Hmm some of the cons playing a thf would be. Sometimes its very hard to get a XP PT. thfs dont get the respect they should. Some of the n00bs think if you dont take any dmg your not doing anything an they will sometimes boot you out of the PT. They dont understand the thfs should not take any dmg at all they should deal all the dmg they can but not take to much. Thats really all I can think of. I wasnt that big of a help but its something to give you a lead way.

You think you're the best, but there is always someone better.

All this pro/con stuff is a bad question to be asking if you plan on making a FAQ. What you want to be asking is how each character benifits a party, and when the time comes, how they work in PVP.

not many people are going to answer this, because it doesn't make all that much sense

Hehe, would leave someone else to make another FAQ for that, however choosing a job comes with a lot of pros and cons, and not everyone knows what those are, and become eagerly disapointed.
My idea for a FAQ is to collect pros and cons of playing a job, so people could more easily see what they are getting themself into. In example the Ranger is the greatest damage dealer in the game, but it comes at the expense of gil, and lots of it, and you'd be suprised how many doesn't realise just how expensive it can get.
I know you can always play around with jobs on the same char, choose a different path, but that might result in that you need to buy new gear, which SUPRISE! isn't exactly free of charge.
And as a mather of fact, how the Thief class in example benefits to a party would in my opinion be a pros, but ack..

I mean, Come on! These questions are asked daily on the forum, why not just collect them and help people on their way?

If it helps I can ask some specific questions:
          1) How's damage?
          2) How's your soloability?
          3) Any heavy expenses?
          4) How's gear availability?
          5) What's the daily death rate?
          6) How wanted are Thiefs in PTs, and for what reason are they wanted?
          7) And most important of all, do you find playing Thief fun? and why?

I'm only a level 20 THF with 4 days game time under my belt, so high level play is still beyond me but I can give you my impressions:

1.) Weak overall. I never realized so much until I started my warrior class. Sneak attack more than makes up for it though.

2.) Horrible. And that's a problem starting out. You're not important till lvl 15, so you will spend a lot of time alone until then. Once I hit 15 though I started to get tells.

3.) Same as a warrior I'd say. You want to invest in DEX boosting equipment, which can become expensive.

4.) You can equip Daggers, 1 handed swords, and h2h. Never had trouble finding equipment as thief. Many more options than let us say a Mage.

5.) High initially. Took me awhile to feel out the enemy. You want to stick with easy prey or decent with low defense. Once you hit 15 and learn sneak you can do some considerable damage, but if you get aggro'd by an even match without getting a sneak off you're dead.

6.) Since I don't have trick I've been limited to Sneak > Weapon Skill > Skill chain, which does a solid amount of damage. Even without a SC I hit with Sneak > Fast Blade for about 80 - 100 damage on average. For IT fights you can usually get 2 sneaks off. So, you're a heavy hitter, but can't tank since it's hard to get aggro. Your treasure finding ability also helps out for people harvesting whatever.

7.) I think they're a blast. It's the 3rd job I started and it is very rewarding. You move around a lot as a thief and with a warrior sub it opens up more possibilities, making an active playing experience which I enjoy.
