  • battle etiquette?..

    hey there

many players set up macro's telling the party what they're doing with each action.. for example - when they're provoking, when provoke is avaliable again, etc.. i have been told to not do this is newbish (wouldn't want that now, would we?.. ^^) .. i also see people in here stating that they use the echo command so that they don't spam *useless garbage* in battle..

i was just wondering what the general concensus is on this... like.. when it's ok to /party some text in a macro and when you should use an /echo and keep your actions to yourself

i post in theif forum because i am theif... and you are very helpful in here ^^

hope i made this understandable ^^

    thanking you in advance

Well it really depends. For example if you are the puller in your party, you definitely want some sort of macro to tell your party when you're getting a monster. A TP macro is a must, for skillchains. And in most cases, most people wouldn't mind helpful party messages that make leveling more effective.

On the other hand, there are some messages that are unnecessary. For example I've partied with mnk's that give a party message every single time they boost. Not only is this useless, it also gets extremely irritating because of how often mnk's boost.

All my macros used to say hail to the Thief, but I took them down, because, yes they are annoying. When I do sneak I usualyl have to tell my tanks to stand on one side of the monster 3 times before they pay attention to me ( -_- ), and when I get yokodama I am definetley making a macro telling the tank to stand still and be close because I'm not gonna let it be messed up. Hopefully all of the "Dragonofdeath" tanks will be gone by then.

I tell them when I do WS if we will skill chain, I make a macro saying; I will be using ------ in --

As a rule I use a pull macro, a tp macro and a warning macro. I also use a renkei macro but this has no party spam on it.

These are the basic macros you should be using, if someone calls you a n00b for that then disband them from the party and watch them die rather than get you killed :p

Every melee should have those macros ready.

White mages should have their cure macros ready, it makes it really easy to see who they are healing and how often and gives you a good heads up if the monster is gonna run off towards them.

I have my stats macro and all that crap, but I hardly use them. And thief's shouldn't pull that's the warriors job, or so says people, god I hate people.

I like to pull as I usually know what mobs are best suited for the party. I don't mind someone pulling if they show they can do it. Some people are absolutely useless and will pull all kinds of crap, running round like idiots.

Plus as a thief it kind of makes sense to pull as you are the best equipped to escape if it goes wrong. Of course, it also leaves your meatshields with the mages for good protection, in case anything happens at base.

That tiny bow hit (I use a bow for pulling ) does not give you any serious aggro.
