  • Do thief's actually make more then others?

with a warrior at about level 15 i had about 38,000gil in my pockets.

and that was the first character i played with so at first i didnt know how to make money...sold my crystals at vendors,etc....i could of easily had around 50,000gil.

say i started out with a thief....would the thief see increased gil? i don't see how...i am a thief now and i can barely afford a dagger lol...i still have the onion knife and i am level 5..and have 0gil in my pockets.

i have tried to steal 20 times...and stole once and got a bird feather worth about 5gil lol....

i dont really see the benefits in gil at alll that a thief gains.

    thief gil gain

Well, I'm at level 8 theif and I'm noticing that when steal does work, that a thief can steal items that aren't dropped very often. You can collect all types of resources for crafting that most people have a difficult time getting together due to the fact the drop for them is very low. I've made a lot of money off of thief so far and I'm only level 8....plus I notice that a orc that use to drop 9 gil for my redmage is actually dropping around 28 gil for my thief. It make a big difference.

When you're higher in level you start to get more. The thief I party with and that Treasure Hunter skill or whatever it is, ends up filling our inventory with TONS of stuff. Almost every Dhamel we fight ends up droping a Giant Femur (300 gil there), and we had an inventory of about 3 sets of 12 Dhamel meat (700-800 gil for each set there).

The big thing though is Thief does seem to have a hard start, but once you get around lv. 15 it starts to become a lot easier and make a lot of gil faster..

        interesting...

i like the idea of stealing things you don't really get that much on drops..

i may try and go ahead and give it more of a chance and see how things work...maybe i just need a better weapon or something....i seen a "beestinger" dagger that looked kinda cool...maybe ill save up for that.

        thanks for comments.

No problem . Stealing is really hard to do at the lower levels, but if you focus on something particular that you want....you'll do just find. My friend is a level 60 thief and he's always stealing things he can sell for thousands of gil.

stealing is a poor man's way to lvling up crafting abilities :p

i tried buying materials to lvl up smithing, and it's just not worth it early in the game... so now i just steal beastcoins from quadavs, and other random things from other mobs, and am almost at lvl 1 smith!!! whoooohooo!!!

            ....

but really, stealing is really helpful, for all the reasons already mentioned in this thread

i dunno....i am just having a headache with a thief.

i kid you not i just got done leveling down/leveling up 8 times....i just cant kill anything...i dont fight anything unless it says decent challenge...and i still die.

hehe...man o man...a thief's life just may be too tough for me...i did manage to steal some coins but the steal success ratio for the 5min interval just bites....2minutes would of been cool...but 5minutes....YOWZA!.

i dunno how you thief's do it....i played every class but the red mage so far...and thief by far is the biggest headache..hardest.

Early on Thief can be tough because of the low damage they cause, although this will get better come level 15 wiith sneak attack and the right dex increasing armor (balance rings and strike baghs., and spike necklace at level 21). What I'm doing, and this may seem like a long process, and it sort of is, is getting subjob ability with my Warrior, then leveling my Monk to 15, then start at my Thief with Thf/Mnk. I'm going to get to 20 with my War/Mnk to get choco, but when I start my Thf I'll have a major advantage. First, I'll have a load of money for the Strike Baghs. and Balance Rings (total of all 3 itmes will be close to 100K) so I'll have the best armor for sneak attack. My attacks (will use h2h) are going to make leveling my Thief and pting much, much more enjoyable and better since I have the Monk sub. I'm already starting off with a good foundation of money to get what I want and need, and this will make Thief more powerful than his non-sub jobbing counterpart. Basicallly, using Thief after you have the sj ability is a great way to go if you know you want to use Thief a lot and don't want to be weak in battles and pts early on.
Do you really believe in anything besides the weight of your guns?

The main thing with lower level thiefs is quantity of kills, not quality. You may find it far easier if you simply beat the crap out of easy mobs that give 18-25 exp than decents that are like 50-72 beacause you will spend less time healing, and they are quicker to kill as well. It is quite possible to get to level 12 of monsters in S Gusta alone.

No kidding a Thief's life is hard. I am super poor (I did level RDM a bit and needed spells), but still it's tough. And on midgard balance rings go for 50k, and strike baghs I've never heard of, while spike necklace also goes for 50k. Everything is hard for a thief, you have to stick it out (not easy to say, I've thought abotu switching to full time RDM a few times). I even had to sell my shield to get a boat ride once.

I should also add no one wants a thief for party, you're far too weak, people rather just take a warrior or a monk. I would like to see if this actually changes at 15. I'm just seeing if I'll like thief more at 15, and if I don't I'll switch to RDM.

                    Such is life.

                      thief

im lvl 12 now..and i solo almost all the time

when i team up..i do less xp than easy mob (well sometimes better but hard fight and with the recovery time it takes longer to xp)

i think until lvl 12 anyone should solo... especially quadav and goblin since they give gill and you steal some beascoin that sell well if you dont keep these for crafting

i cant waith to get sneak attack though....
im using sword since it does a lot more damage than daggers
maybe its better to take sword in the beginning since you dont have much skill...i dont know if ill keep sword ...maybe ill change

                        good posts..

it could be that the thief/taru combo is the hardest in the world at the beginning....my strength was non existent...and i was doing 0-1 damage at the start..now at level 6 i am doing about 7 damage.

while i have some good agility and dome decent dexterity...my strength is not there...the good thing is that the agility really shows....i am dodging alot more attacks then i would with warrior..so im glad that actually has effect....that has helped me win some battles...them missing me.

if i could use a bow & arrow efficiently as a low level thief...things would be much better.

im going to level up to 7 and try and buy the "beestinger" dagger and see if that helps any.

also adds a bonus to your agility if i remember correctly

                            +1 AGI , +1 DEX

or was i looking at another weapon hehe.

I switch my weapons as I cap them. Right now I have about 70 in sword and 25 in dagger....I started as a redmage. Whenever I cap dagger, I switch to h2h and then back to sword when I cap them to do the most damage. Really I think thief has some of the most versatile weapon options next to the warrior. I've been working thrown with pebbles I find, but I want to get a boomerang. As far as marksman goes....I want to find a crossbow or a gun, but haven't been able to find those. I imagine I can find them on the auction counter, but man......anyone found a crossbow or gun on sale in a store?
