Thief Damage

What's the damage with a thief like in comparison to other classes. I expected it to be a bit lower than other melee classes but after looking at the stats of some of the weapons the best thief weapons seem to be around a quater of some of the other classes weapons. Does the weapon damage make that much of a difference on the damage you cause or isn't it as bad as that?

Look at the weapon delay as well. You might do less damage per hit, but if you're hitting more often, you can still come out ahead.

In the very early game, thieves don't do very good damage. My lv11 Hume WHM does nearly the melee damage that most theives I've partied with do. They all seem to use swords, too :-/

However, I understand that later in the game, some of the thief abilities go a long way towards upping their damage capabilities--thieves are supposed to do good damage later in the game. Stats and weapons don't count for everything--abilities, weapon skills, and renkei are equally important.
