It depends on if you want to be a thief or a ninja. Neither is bad.:spin:

First off, you need to decide on what race. Thats going to play an important role in your spec. While the Thief foucses on DEX as his best attribute, the Ninja looks at both DEX and AGI. So you would want a race that excel's in these 2 areas. I'd suggest Mithra, second choice would be Hume.

      -Advantages- of THF/NIN:

Dual Weild: Your stats would go up pending on the swords/daggers you are using and what bonuses they have on them.

Agility & Dex: You would get a bonus on your AGI from being a Ninja

Ninjitsu: Invisible, Blink, Fire, Water, Thunder, Earth, Wind, Ice, Blind, Slow, Poison, Paralysis. You would be able to use all these abilities in combat, not to mention your passives. Stealth, Resist Bind, and Dual Weild.

Also you have the Thief's gil and treasure finder, which allows you to find extra money. Thats going to help fund you for your scrolls you need for Ninjitsu.

      -Disadvantages- of THF/NIN:

Dual Weild: You are on the same attack table as someone using a 1h.

      On to NIN/THF.

      -Advantages- of NIN/THF:

AGI & DEX: This time you gain the bonus from your THF sub-job.

      Dual Weild: See Above

Ninjitsu: See Above, except in this case your "spells" and actives would be more effective.

      -Disadvantages- of NIN/THF:

      Dual Weild: See Above

But in the end, its all up to you. Both are good spec's w/pro's and con's, but that can be said of all classes. And thats one thing that I definitely like about FFXI, there is no "elite" class. They all have equality to them.

And as I said above, the biggest thing you should have to worry about these classes is what race you want to play it as. Good luck!:spin:

        Thf/Ninja

I know that at higher levels that thieves are invaluable for their ability to cause a massive amount of damage and their ability to manage hate. So far as support classes the best ones I can think of are perhaps warrior, ninja, and dark knight. However I not exactly sure what ninja and dark knight really bring to the party. I understand that with a thief their main job is to cause damage. Thus, a warrior and dark knight sub would go really well due to the fact that both have naturally high strengths and they have a passive attack bonus. A warrior also has a passive defense bonus. A ninja...well other then increasing your agility and dexterity I'm not exactly sure what the benefit of subbing this job would be, due to the fact I do not know much abotu what ninjustu you can have at level 30. Really is this ninja magic worth having? Out of these three subs, what would you guys consider the most compatiable of the subs for a thief main?

the disadvantage of Ninja/thief is not having the warrior ability 'provoke' (taunt). without this ability you can't be a tank, you just attack the enemy without any special role.

I would rather just attack w/o a role. It is a lot simpler. You may not be recognized as much, but that's not what a party is about.

thiefs dont tank... i would understand if we were talking bout a nin/war that uses blink and provoke to tank, but we are talking about thief being the sub or main, thats means you airnt tring to tank.

nin/thief is cool because you have the DW that at first aint so good but eventualy becomes sweet. and the ninjitsu aint free so a thief would get you more bang for your buck (gil w/e), and having the extra agi dex eva w/e would help to.

the bad part would be that you get sneak attack at lv 30 insted of lv 15 and even when you get it it wont be as strong as it could be cause its been subbed. but it still is good to have.

a nin/thf role (IMO) is to cripple the mob w/ nijitsu or by just attacking (most 1h katanas do satus effects to mob). and using sneak to start off the battle isnt bad either.

NIN/THF is ok for solo but very useless in party

if you flag party on with NIN/THF no one invite you in party i mean in high lv party,or you have to form party yourself

NIN if not sub /WAR why you need blink for?...i saw many NA player avoid to provoke...na player still has a lot to learn how to play in party

because there is other ninjitsu spells besides blink? omfg there is?!?

if all you see a ninja as is a blink bag tossing robot, you don't deserve to party with me in the first place

Right now it's strictly Japanese who are high levels, by the time I get to that point, there will be more people around for partying up. Plus I have enough friends to group with that I don't have to depend on the mercy of "perfect pt nazis" to get exp.

Ninjas get a Dual Wield bonus at 25, another one at 45, and one at 65 which (from what I have been told by many) deletes the dual wield penalty so you swing both weapons at the delay of 1 weapon.
